Just in the last two years, Iran has lost a bunch of its friends who helped them feel strong.
First, groups like Hamas and Hezbollah got really hurt in big fights with Israel. They’re not as powerful anymore, like when your favorite team loses all its best players.
Then, Bashar al-Assad, the leader of Syria who was a super close buddy, got kicked out at the end of 2024. That was a huge deal because Syria was like a road for Iran to send stuff to its friends.
The Houthis in Yemen got hit hard too, though they’re still fighting a little.
And guess what happened just yesterday? The United States did a big operation with strikes and captured Nicolás Maduro, the leader of Venezuela, along with his wife, and flew them out of the country! Venezuela was another far-away friend who thought like Iran.
Plus, back in 2025, there were super strong attacks from Israel and the U.S. that took out a ton of Iran’s top bosses. Like the head of their special guards (the IRGC), the aerospace chief, army leaders, and even scientists working on secret stuff. It was like losing the captain and coaches of your whole team.
Right now, Iran’s money situation is really, really bad. Their money, called the rial, is worth way less. It hit a super low, like over 1,400,000 rials for one dollar, kind of like if your allowance used to buy a big toy but now only gets a tiny candy. Prices for food and everything are going up super fast, with inflation over 40 percent! So people can’t buy what they need. There’s not enough stuff in stores, lots of blackouts, and many folks are super poor and hungry.
Because of that, huge protests are happening all over Iran. In big cities like Tehran and smaller ones too, spreading to many provinces. People are marching in the streets, shouting things like “No to Gaza or Lebanon. My life for Iran!” because they’re mad that money went to help friends far away instead of fixing things at home. Some chants even say “Death to the dictator” about the leaders. Sadly, some people have gotten hurt or even killed when police try to stop the protests. At least several people have died in clashes.
At the same time, Iran’s best pals, Russia and China, are super busy with their own problems. Russia is still stuck in a long war in Ukraine, and China is worrying a lot about Taiwan.
And the biggest enemy for Iran? The United States! They have a President (Trump) who’s saying loud and clear that he supports the people protesting. He warned that if the leaders shoot and kill peaceful protesters, the U.S. will come to their rescue and is “locked and loaded.”
If somebody told me two or three years ago that all this crazy stuff would happen, I’d say, “No way! That’s impossible!”
But look at our world now. Everything’s changing so fast, and honestly, anything can happen next. It’s like a wild adventure story!

True — the UNC isn’t “right-wing” in the traditional sense. But in Trinidad’s political landscape, the left/right divide doesn’t map cleanly to U.S. or European definitions. The UNC leans center-left on social policies but has historically been more aligned with Western diplomatic and economic interests — especially the U.S. — compared to the PNM, which has taken a more non-aligned or regionalist stance, particularly with Venezuela. So it really depends on whether you're talking about domestic policy or foreign alignment

But from what I've seen, Florida didn't specifically order the destruction of books on African or Native American history. There was this one case at New College where they tossed a bunch of books - including Bibles, stories by Black and Latin authors, and even queer/trans narratives. It looks more like they were just getting rid of certain types of books rather than targeting specific histories.

I looked into it on the ABC7 site (https://t.co/GfRr7VTIty), and it's not as clear-cut as the video makes it seem. You know how it is with these viral videos, sometimes they can be a bit off the mark. It's probably a good idea to look at a few different sources or check out some fact-checking sites to get the full picture.
