wallets and keys and bikes and friends and dates and apartments and passports and idealisms. i've lost so much but it was never a disaster, and neither was last night, and neither is getting older in this city, which has swallowed so much but always answers back.
last night a guy stole my bag. it had medication and keys and life shit in it. but in the erratic panic of the after, i felt berlin open up to me again. hoping the card and cash were taken and the bag was abandoned, two best friends helped me look, and like detectives we plotted
we kept looking until past midnight, when we sat on a bench in the inky black of Boxhagener Platz and drank Spätidrinks and talked a lot of shit. i've been here ten years, and i've lost and lost and lost. reminded of Elizabeth Bishop: "the art of losing isn't hard to master."
Join us today at 4pm CST to hear the winners of NIMROD’s annual literary awards, Jonathan Diaz (@JonathanADiaz) and Allison Krupp (@allikrupp), read from their work with judges Paisley Rekdal (@PaisleyRekdal) and Kelly Link!
A new look for a new year. Our Winter 2025 issue, which will reach readers in January, features work by writers we’ve admired for years, as well as poems and stories by those just starting their careers. A thing of beauty, inside and out. We couldn’t be more proud.
it was with religious fervor that i studied my girl elaine benes as a kid & now i'm a 30-something writer in a major city. it's my time. catch me at the cinema w some jujube & a piece of goss that will take u OUT.
in my aunt's book, she writes about "allowing your hair to go gray," which is a funny and poetic thing, the idea that we allow it to, when really it just does. #amwriting
The Bee Sting by Paul Murray is a staggering work. midway through that 700-page chonk i texted a friend to say "oh, it's a horror novel," & she said, "yes, i suppose it is." #amreading
#writingcommunity i commissioned illustrations for the paris horror novel from a brilliant artist & wonderful friend. here's the first. (thank u forever Andy Berry!)
