A senior leader of the Thadou tribe, who had recently participated in peace initiatives in Manipur, has been allegedly murdered in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, a police official said on Monday.

According to police, Nehkam Jomhao, who was living in rented accommodation in Kuki Basti, Manja area, was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons on August 30, and his body was disposed of in the nearby Jamuna river.

Although the body is yet to be recovered, five suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, the official confirmed.
