In this fast paced world, it can be easy to be distracted and forget to really connect to the people in front of us. Yet our caring can create a profound impact even in a matter of seconds. It's something I talk about in my speech. The little moments are actually the big moments. That kind glance of sincerity you give to someone, letting them feel seen and cared for, can change the course of someone's day. It is such a simple yet profound act that can make someone not feel alone in the middle of a workplace, where they may feel isolated or disconnected. We have no idea of what people are going through internally, so why not be the soft place for people? :)
This is just one of countless examples of how we can each make a beautiful impact on the people around us.
Caring for each other in this world is actually one of our simple pleasures. When we open our heart in kindness to someone, that same feeling of warmth washes over ourselves as well.

Happy Father’s Day to this precious man. He is such a kind soul, so devoted to his family, and still in a love story with my dear mom since they met in high school. I adore this man. He loves cartoons and the Muppet Show. He plays the piano, speaks Italian and Greek, is always intellectually fascinated with history and the arts, was skiing black diamond slopes with me and mom when he was 82 and doing 100 push-ups a day up to two years ago at 89! He is a head and neck surgeon whose compassion with his patients was palpable when he was in practice. Still, that warmth and compassion impacts everyone he knows. We all hang on every word he says because he is so interesting! Yet, it’s his cuteness overload that usually steals the show. One of my favorite quotes he said to me when I was in high school, was at the end of the day after he had gotten home from work. He was sitting pondering something and then he said, “At the end of the day I like to think about all the warm and fuzzy things that happened to me, so that I can feel all warm and fuzzy inside.” I love you dad! #wisdomfromthemasters #adorable
4,000 people in a room. There is no greater feeling than being able to make an impact like this. I am so deeply grateful for the work that I do in the world. Thank you with all my heart to the leadership of @APIC for bringing me to speak today. You've given me another day to live my life's mission. And, the meet and greet afterwards was so incredibly meaningful. The members of this association are truly so compassionate, present, dedicated, passionate and caring. I loved every minute of it and I wish I could take everybody home with me!
"Compassion heals the places that medicine cannot touch." You all exemplify this, and all that is good in this world.

Take time to rest. Get outside. Let your mind wander. Get lost in the music of your inner world. This is a very easy way to be kind to yourself. We each have the capacity to restore ourselves in this very simple way. Bask in the feeling of it all. And then you'll be ready to go after the life you want another day.
Someone recently asked me what I hope people carry with them long after I leave the stage—whenever I have a healthcare audience. The many specific lessons land a little differently for each person. But a few truths are universal.
First: You are the healers of the world.
I want every person in the room to feel deeply seen—treasured for the love you bring to your patients, for your devotion, and for the extraordinary value of work that so often goes unspoken.
Second: Take command and thrive.
We can each make a vigorous, life-changing choice to move through radical change and become a force of light—for ourselves and for everyone around us. Every single day, we get to decide to drive our own life. To say yes to life. To hold command over our choices, our feelings, our reactions. That awareness brings a full aliveness—a vitality and presence that can feel entirely new.
Third: Practice kindness—with others, and with yourself.
Never underestimate what your care does for the people beside you. Every act of kindness lays a brick of goodness that extends through time. None of it is forgotten.
And kindness can be simple. A genuine smile. A sincere compliment. A supportive hand. A thumbs up. These small things lift a spirit. Your kindness truly matters.
Above all, I want you to know how deeply I care for you, respect you, and appreciate your dedication in service to others.

Be still my heart. ❤️ I so loved speaking for OCHIN! I met so many people who attended the event. These are kind souls. The leadership team is outstanding! And how fortunate I felt that they purchased art prints for their leadership as gifts - we did an art signing afterwards - and we got to sit and have such meaningful conversations. OCHIN provides Healthcare IT solutions, and operational and workforce solutions, and TRULY cares about the people they serve. This was an honor. Thank you OCHIN!

In an interview, I was just asked: "In this fast-paced world, what can organizations do to foster courage among employees to handle so much change?"
Here is what I shared.
When I am in the midst of uncertainty I always like to imagine feeling like I have infinite courage, and moving forward with eyes wide open, fearlessly.
To be courageous, we have to choose to believe that we can achieve a positive vision for our future.
For organizations and leadership, fostering this kind of courage first comes down to appreciation and presence with their people: celebrating their strengths, recognizing them, empowering them, and reminding them that they are capable enough to take on challenges.
In my keynote, I speak about five kinds of courage:
· The Courage of Curiosity: Actively engaging your curiosity; seeing life as a school.
· The Courage of Truth: Having the courage to sincerely and gently seek and see the truth of who you are, of your situation, and of the people involved.
· The Courage of Defiance: Being defiant to keep your light shining, no matter what is happening in your life or in the world around you.
· The Courage of Compassion: Bringing your full heart forward with tenderness and strength.
· The Courage of Trust: Making the decision to keep your heart open to life and believing in your ability to find your way.
I love specifically calling out these types of courage because people don’t often give themselves credit for the courage they already have in their lives.
Part of the role of leadership is highlighting and being a champion of people’s strengths. When you see someone’s gifts, talents, dedication, or greatness, speak up and tell them. This way, we are helping each other become the best version of ourselves.
When people feel appreciated and seen, they’re going to feel at home and feel they belong. From that place, people have more energy to bring courage into their lives, to be happier at work, and perform at their best.

Compassion Heals The Places Medicine Cannot Touch:
In 1998, I was in a nearly fatal collision, trapped inside a burning car and sustained second- and third-degree burns over 50 percent of my body. For the forty days I spent on the burn unit, I was completely dependent on the nurses and doctors around me.
I know what it feels like to have your life held in someone else's hands—and to sense, in the most visceral way, when that person is truly present with you, with their genuine care. One of the most precious memories I have is of a nurse. One night, in the middle of one of my deepest moments of despair, I thought I was alone, but she somehow noticed. Suddenly, she was there, leaning over my bed above me, so closely, and looking into my eyes with such incredible sweetness. She ran her fingers gently through my hair and never took her gaze off of me. I felt healed. It was a seven-second interaction and I will never forget her.
Small acts of presence, like this, literally kept me alive in those first weeks of recovery. The care, attention and humanity of my nurses, doctors and other hospital team members, deeply supported and healed me—in ways that medicine alone could not. Those experiences inspired my tremendous belief that, “Compassion heals the places medicine cannot touch.”

Happy Nurses Week! ❤️ What would we do without our beloved nurses? I’m so grateful to all of you!
Today was a very special day. It was my fourth time speaking for Atlantic Health. This is such a spectacular health system!

Last week, a healthcare client asked my opinion about what empathetic leadership can look like in today’s fast-paced environment. Here are my thoughts:
In healthcare, "compassionate care" is always centered on the patient. It is vital to also remember that the people carrying the system—the teams and individuals working every day to make care possible—also need "compassionate care," empathy, and support.
Healthcare is entering a remarkable new era of emerging technologies and possibility. However, there is also so much uncertainty. We’ve all been thrown into a world we never expected. Healthcare professionals, already stretched by demanding workloads, time constraints, and short-staffing, are now being asked to learn and adopt ever-accelerating technologies on top of their existing responsibilities. This requires Olympian effort. It's no wonder so many feel overwhelmed.
For leaders, this moment of rapid change is also an opportunity to encourage their people to lean into the future with confidence and curiosity. Powerful leadership needs to model the courage, hope, and internal strength that are necessary to actively take on the challenges of this moment. There’s no sitting back. You have to be a fighter, with heart. Otherwise, you’re just taking punches and surviving.
Significantly, as people are being asked to learn and integrate new processes, they may also be facing very real concerns about being replaced. Empathetic leaders can remind their people of their irreplaceable and essential value. It is the human running and overseeing AI who has intrinsic value. We need the human oversight of AI. And as new technologies take on the time-consuming operational tasks, there will be more time and freedom for the valuable and uniquely human dimensions of care, including creativity, empathy, vision, and all the quiet acts of compassion that define great healthcare.

What a day. Speaking for University Hospitals leaders today was spectacular. Awards went out to celebrate patient experience champions from each part of the healthcare system.
This is my second time speaking for this special organization that is rooted truly in love…Love for patients and love for colleagues creating a culture that is palpably beautiful. The CEO’s speech today was so very beautiful. For this particular event Chris Lawler brought me in after hearing me somewhere else! There’s no greater compliment.
The Q&A that we had was quite profound. People asked about loneliness and how to help someone if you see them hurting this way. The conversations were rich and meaningful and moving. We talked about defiance, and making the decision to be the light no matter what is happening to you or in the world around you. I will never forget this group.
I’m truly grateful to be doing what I love and making an impact.

Today I got to speak in Arkansas. A beloved client saw me speak three years ago in Tampa, FL and has been trying to bring me here all this time. What a gift. I met the most wonderful people here. Kind hearts. I feel so fortunate to do this work.

If you work in healthcare, I'm going to save you HOURS of time. Many people right now are feeling overwhelmed with learning emerging technologies on top of their normal job responsibilities where they are already stretched thin. I took the last few months to research agentic AI in the healthcare space pulling in clients like the @MayoClinic. I'm very excited to share my long-form article with you that shows a very powerful and beautiful vision for the future for human care, where not only compassionate care for patients remains essential, but also compassionate care for the people carrying the heavy load of the system.
I hope you will read it! The link is in the comments!
