@headlitesdeer My phone is very useful, and I love using my smart watch to pay for stuff, but I usually have my full wallet on me, and if that's not possible, I make sure to have at the very least one credit card and my driver's license.
@kristinautumnkh@TheNerdyCatLady I was a field recruiter earlier this year. People would apply to the job and then ignore us when we tried to start the interview process. Or they would agree to an interview and then no-show. Or they would accept the job, pass the background check, and ghost. It was so bizarre.
“How did we go from paper straws to data centres?”
Because no one listened to the environmentalists who said unchecked corporate pollution was the bigger issue.
@CharlotteAlter I love popping in on my way home just for fresh dinner ingredients and whatever we might be running low on.
In 2020 I dutifully went once a week as requested, but it was actually hard to change up my routine like that. I was so used to going multiple times a week.
Women: “I find your behavior creepy and I’m uncomfortable.”
Men: “Actually, it makes no logical sense for you to find me creepy. Stop being uncomfortable.”
@alisha_hg When ppl only shop once a week, to them grocery shopping is this big, long, overwhelming to-do, and they think we're doing *that* after work 3-4 days a week.
We're not. Most of the time we're popping in for vegetables and meat for dinner, maybe eggs and bread.
@farazamiruddin I love living within walking distance to two grocery stores. We have a car for when we need it, but it's nice that folks in our neighborhood who can't drive or afford a car can still get the food they need without having to rely on someone to drive them.
the real question here is “do women have a reasonable expectation of anonymity when doing routine, mundane errands,” and i think the answer has to be “yes”
@SukkihimeVT It's crazy to me how many people don't realize this is policy at basically every company. It should be common sense. Read the handbook - the whole handbook, not just the parts about attendance, drug use, and the dress code.
@GhostOfSocrates I'm watching this debate wondering, do people not go to parties anymore?? Social gatherings? Do they not have hobbies that have them interacting with other people in person? Everyone I've ever dated was someone I met through friends or a shared hobby.
@windupgemma We can't win. If we're nice, guys think we're flirting with them and then get mad when we ignore or reject their advances. If we're not nice, then obviously we're awful people who deserve harassment and violence.
I make like 18 cents an hour & have worked lots of retail/service jobs. Here's my unpopular take after years of thinking about the airpod-ization of public space, including customer-facing jobs: this is part of contemporary alienation & loneliness. Being lost in media
@theistinthought I live in a walkable city, and plenty of people do have cars and drive to the store because they're getting more than they can carry.
But plenty of folks don't have cars, some can't drive even if they wanted to, and they use carts. It's nice that they can walk to the store.
@butchbatnix@lieumle Having lived with a few sets of roommates in my 20's, I do remember getting to inherit things people left behind, either accidentally or on purpose because they didn't need it anymore. But I also would never feel entitled to keep something someone else brought into the apartment.
