in order to become a better person, you must first realize how horrible you really are. not in the dramatic sense, but in the quiet ways you sabotage yourself, repeat unhealthy patterns, hurt people who care about you, or tolerate what wounds you. you cannot grow if you keep pretending you’re innocent in the story you’ve created.

your brain learns fastest when the emotion is loudest. that means the moments when you feel the strongest urge to fall back into an old habit are also some of your best chances to build a new pattern. every time you sit with the craving instead of obeying it, you’re teaching your brain that the old response is no longer in charge. the moments that feel hardest can become the moments that change you most.
