Beards, kissing, and getting the liturgy right. What more could one ask for in a theology podcast? My guest ( @HappyThurifer ) offers up a bespoke curation of Anglican-Orthodox history and it is both fun and filled with wisdom. (See first comment)
@TimGuile Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
O! For a Thousand Tongues to Sing

Ye Servants of God
The words of these hymns are familiar to many English speaking Christians across denominations!

@dvdpeters Imagine the most memorable sermon on Hebrews 4:16 ever. "Let us then approach Godโs throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
@HappyThurifer@trilldegard@Make_it_Raines Geoffrey Wainwright (ecumenist, theologian, and British Methodist clergy) said he probably spent more time as a kid leafing through the hymnal and reading the texts than listening to the sermons
@HappyThurifer@Make_it_Raines of two kids, maybe 3-4 years old, telling the easter story in a cutesy fashion. It was heavily edited (I imagine they were fed it line by line). I about screamed, "I need to hear it again!" (And for the record this pastor was a traditionalist/conservative in the UMC!)
@HappyThurifer@Make_it_Raines My worst Easter was at UMC I was attending while doing fulltime campus ministry. Time came to read the gospel, you know, the actual Easter story. Pastor said, I kid you not, "I think we've all heard it enough times I don't need to read it." And proceeded to play a video 1/
@HappyThurifer@Make_it_Raines One Sunday, our children's minister told a Godly Play story as the homily (ready to be canceled for this). It went over quite well. I think encouraging adults to wonder is good, in addition to proclaiming truths about God
@HappyThurifer@Make_it_Raines It seems, then, that Godly Play should be one part of a wider formation plan. We use Godly Play here, and the kids (including my teens) seems to like it. But yeah, isn't exactly providing robust Bible knowledge
