Another lifer for me this evening, a small, weird, bubble sound making quail. I was under the impression they were skulky, this one flew a few times and even sung in view for a few minutes! Corn bunts, yellow wags, marsh harrier, grey parts also at Rixton Moss @CAWOSBirding
Dropped by Salisbury Plain to look for bustards and was delighted by so many corn buntings and grey partridge. What a great job @bustardgroup and @DefenceHQ are doing.
A leggy white bird weekend last week at the Somerset levels. The great white egrets had the most amazing leg and face colour as they prepare for breeding.
This evening, the Noss Boat - Shetland Seabird Tours crew found a storm blown Atlantic puffin, emaciated, exhausted but surprisingly alert on a secluded Shetland beach! It came lumbering towards us over the rocks, and flopped at our feet, and was easily caught and taken into care. We are finding a number of dead Atlantic puffin and other auks such as guillemots on our winter beachcombing walks, a large number of seabirds succumb to the winter weather out on the open ocean, but weβve never come across a live beached auk before. This adult winter plumaged puffin will be fed and hopefully released after the current storm has passed tomorrow. #puffin #shetland #winterstorm
