As sex workers, I completely respect why many of my peers can’t get excited about Kamala. I get it! She was instrumental in taking down Backpage, she was a huge part of SESTA/FOSTA, and she supports the Nordic model. She was also California’s “top cop.” These things are true and totally valid.

AND

I’m also terrified of what Trump will do if he’s re-elected. Project 2025 says he will *criminalize porn.* I’m also terrified of a national abortion ban. I’m terrified of what will happen to the LGBTQ community, racial minorities, immigrants, and other marginalized groups. I’m worried about the environment and billionaires and corporations getting massive tax breaks off of the working class’ backs.

AND

Despite my personal misgivings, I think Kamala is our best bet against literal fascism. I’m also excited about the prospect of our first female president and I’m honestly glad that our first woman president could be a woman of color. These things matter.

Tldr, it’s complicated. I find myself energized about Kamala and I’m not going to pretend like there isn’t a history of harm to my community. I’m not here to convince SW otherwise.

This is all to say that multiple things can be true at the same time. It’s ok to support Kamala and it’s also ok to have reservations because of SESTA/FOSTA and Backpage. There’s so much nuance here and I hope we can have respectful dialogue about these topics.
