@Hogman April is going to je depressing for me. As a competitive and casual ballistic player my heart is absolutely broken and crushed the ONLY game mode I play is being deleted.
well that was fast! just met with a studio head for a really cool game
said the team was super impressed with my work and would love to have me, talking with everybody more on monday. fully remote, great pay, hard problems to solve
chat we are so back 🥹
Look, I will say this as respectfully as possible.
He did not "take one for the team".
Epic Games is owned by the owner of Unreal Engine, which is used by a huge amount of games.
Sweeney makes roughly 5.1-9 BILLION. With a B.
Based on Net Worth, if Tim Sweeney were to use his ENTIRE estimated net worth of $5.1 billion (the lower Forbes estimate from March 2026) to pay employees an annual salary of $125,000, he could fund 40,800 employees for one year BY HIMSELF.
Let's assume that the devs made 125k each (obvi variables), to keep all 1000 at that rate is $125m, leaving Sweeney, at the low estimate, an annual worth of $4.9 Billion.
That's assuming his stock package doesn't pop as a result of retaining that talent, mind you.
These are the folks that made him this profit. As literal as you can possibly take it. What is offered is NOT commeasurate nor is it "oh how nice", it's bare minimum for locking the talent that made you a pop culture behemoth behind restrictive NDAs and taking away their security in an economic crisis.
You need to save $500 million? SELL SOME SHARES AND PROTECT YOUR STAFF.
Defending this person who chuckled that they can fight Apple bc infinite money and had enough to buy hundreds of thousands of forest in NC for conservation while his dev team is left in the cold and the rest have to fear when it's their turn is insanely nasty work. You can't honestly defend that if you have empathy.
My heart goes out to everyone affected by the recent wave of layoffs at Epic Games. Unfortunately, I received the news that Ballistic will be shutting down soon, and to be honest, it really hurts +
Because of Tim Sweeney:
- The Fortnite Metaverse was rushed and resources were stripped from the storyline & events
- Donald Mustard retired from Epic Games
- 1,000+ Epic Employees were laid off in September 2023
- Fortnite's story suffered greatly from the lack of resources
- Billions of dollars were spent fighting Apple & Google and Tim joked about it causing financial problems in the future
- UEFN creators were, for no good reason, paid almost $800 million dollars in the past year
- On March 19th, V-Bucks prices were increased and the amount we received was reduced
- 1,000+ more Epic Employees were just laid off today
Every time we even reach a potential high for this game & things look good for everyone, Tim Sweeney manages to bring it all down. He is the ROOT of all the problems with Fortnite & Epic Games in recent years.
ALL OF THIS happened because he thought Fortnite can be just like Roblox and it took him FOUR YEARS to realize that it can't be. And only after he had done SO MUCH damage to both this game & the company. I genuinely cannot believe how someone can be so stupid.
Again, I am so heartbroken for all the employees who were laid off today. Not a single one of them deserved this. They put so much love & care into this game only to then be laid off. I truly wish them the best moving forward. Try and support them as much as possible, along with the employees who weren't laid off either. It's taking a toll on all of them.
I put this on the Ballistic forum, but I might as well ask here too. It's highly unlikely to happen, but I wanna ask anyway.
Is there any way that we could at least see screenshots or concept art of what the finished shell maps could have looked like?
@TimSweeneyEpic Youre actually a Joke @TimSweeneyEpic you think youre losing money now? Just you wait the decisions you made today and the last few weeks are not unseen and people are not happy. Youre not helping the game or your company youre only destroying it for greed, hope youre happy now.
Hey @TimSweeneyEpic, I love Ballistic and I know there's a dedicated community behind it. Let us at @JOGO buy it from you and we'll maintain, update and grow it. I'd be sad to see this mode just disappear... it didn't get the chance it deserved.
All the damage Tim Sweeney has done to Fortnite:
- Cause Donald Mustard to leave
- Take all storyline resources to focus it on “Metaverse”
- Putting more focus on collabs
- laying off 900 employees cause “epic losing too much money”
- meanwhile:
. Waste billions fighting apple and google
. Waste millions on making epic games store just to attack valve
. Waste millions on side modes
. Waste millions to give UEFN people instead of your own developers
- for 3 Chapters UEFN and Metaverse become main focus overshadowing Fortnite’s own core
- Was thinking about changing Fortnite name for a bit until backlash
- Over promising on every aspect and under delivering
- Highering vbucks prices cause “we need to pay bills”
- lays off 1000 employees AGAIN
Meawhile:
- Still making disney and metaverse modes
- Still paying millions to UEFN people, even ai generated things or BRAINROTT. And there is more collabs in Fortnite rn than ever before
Tim sweeney is an example of when a person is willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of their goals, even if the goal is idiotic and stupid
Willing to sacrifice your own developers, your own gaming community for it.
