I remain crystal clear why this is the case ( with plenty of evidence):
The Orientals ( SE and Far East Asia+ China) are a superior people: far more inventive, very hard working, system and procedures driven.
See the rise of Japan , the Asian Tigers, China, Vietnam... Breakout nations.
And then see the South Asians: India, Pakistan, BD, SL... You get the picture... most mired in low income for decades. Most clustering around similar per Capita GDP give or take 20-30%.
Orient is higher by multiples, all in the same period.
It comes down to people. Not leadership. Don't blame Bizzepee or Kaun-gress. They both have done plenty.
Ab public hi average to mediocre, what can they do? ( Go see North East: the most civilized part of India: urbane, polished, cultured, clean. Part of same country. Why so different from the jaahil- kaahil heartland?)
Recent example:
I was looking to buy an NMES device. Found an Indian co. Contacted them. 8 times already. Zero response.
Bought a 14 Watt Laser from a Chinese co. USD 1k. Malfunction after 4 months.
Salesgirl sent me a replacement + a patch to resolve the problem. Followed up multiple times. All for a tiny order. She's 26.
Unimaginable dedication.
We, as a people, are lacking in genuine inventiveness, hard work, system drive, governance.
Eg, We blame governments for lack of cleanliness . And most will litter everything. And then complain everything is dirty. Who created that in the first place.
Tourism? Forget it. It's never happening: there are dozens of better places globally.
Without eugenics, South Asia isn't making it. It will all be " We are better than Pakistan" Kool Aid.
We aren't matching even Vietnam.
Sub-Saharan Africa has a massive home appliance opportunity hiding in plain sight.
822M people don't have a refrigerator.
400M don't have access to basic cooling.
And ~600M people live completely off-grid.
Yet most appliance brands are still selling products designed for stable grids and mature markets.
That creates a huge gap:
Cheap Chinese imports are affordable, but often don't survive the infrastructure.
European/Japanese brands are reliable, but too expensive.
The missing category:
Affordable + durable + energy-efficient appliances built for African conditions.
Items like:
- Wide-voltage refrigerators.
- Low-wattage BLDC fans.
- Solar freezers.
- DC appliances.
- Low-power cooling.
This is where I think Indian manufacturers have a massive opportunity.
We've spent decades building appliances for voltage fluctuations, heat, dust and unreliable power.
Africa doesn't need another cheap appliance.
It needs appliances designed for Africa.
And the company that owns that middle could build a very big business.
It's Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature
The natural flood disaster that ravaged the Tibetan side of the international border before leaving a vast trail of death and destruction in downstream Nepal is a powerful illustration of what geomorphological research has long documented: human alterations to mountain landscapes and river corridors can transform and magnify natural hazards.
Satellite imagery and geological mapping indicate that an ice-and-rock avalanche sheared off from a Nepal-side glacier situated directly along the rim of the international boundary, then plunged 1.2 kilometers across the border into the upper basin on the Tibetan side before cascading into a transboundary river system.
Extensive upstream infrastructure in the Tibetan border region compounded the downstream impacts through physical, structural and operational vulnerabilities.
Artificial structures prevented floodwaters from naturally dispersing across the floodplain. Instead, they funneled the liquid-mud-rock mass through a narrow gorge, accelerating its velocity as it crossed into Nepal's Koshi and Trishuli river basins. This hyper-concentrated slurry, laden with sediment and construction debris, carried far greater kinetic force than clear floodwaters, becoming a battering ram that obliterated downstream bridges, roads and hydropower facilities.
As British writer and philosopher Aldous Huxley observed, "If you want nature to treat you well, you must treat nature well. If you start destroying nature, nature will destroy you." The disaster wrecked much of China's upstream infrastructure, including Gyirong Port, its principal terrestrial gateway for bilateral trade with Nepal. Arjun Poudel, a Nepali journalist for the @kathmandupost, reports his own tragedy:
"I watched my village disappear in an instant...
My eldest aunt was swept away. So was her son, my dai Madhu, and his wife. My other aunt — gone too, they told me. Her grandson Sijan and his wife, caught in the same water. His own son and daughter-in-law, unreachable, unaccounted for. My maternal uncle had gone out that morning to cut grass for the cattle. He never came back."

I’ve spent many weeks doing fieldwork in Tibet, sitting above these enormous, deeply incised Himalayan river systems and seeing firsthand just how geologically active this landscape is.
So spare me the climate-change grift every time a natural disaster strikes.
Catastrophic glacial outburst floods are not new. The 1981 Zhangzangbo GLOF released ~20 million m³ of water and debris into Nepal, with estimated peak discharge approaching 16,000 m³/s. The Himalayas experienced enormous GLOFs long before today's atmospheric CO₂ concentrations.
If it happened naturally in the past, we should expect it to happen naturally again in the future—regardless of atmospheric CO₂.
Turning a horrific loss of life into an immediate climate-change narrative without demonstrating that CO₂ caused this particular event isn't attribution. It's opportunism.
And the people exploiting tragedy to do it are grifters.
This is what a GLOF looks like in motion: a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood, sometimes called a Jökulhlaup (Icelandic for "glacier run").
Basically: meltwater builds up in a basin trapped against or beneath a glacier. Eventually the ice dam gives way, and all that pent-up water rushes out; sometimes over the course of a day or more.
At Columbia Glacier, this happens almost like clockwork, roughly once a year, with the lake taking about a day and a half to fully drain. No roads, no homes in the path; so it mostly happens quietly, without anyone downstream even noticing.
Compare that to Juneau, where GLOFs along the Mendenhall River actually threaten homes and residents in the valley each year. Serious flood-mitigation work has gone into protecting the community there.
Watching that volume of water suddenly break free from under a glacier is still humbling.
Glaciers aren't the frozen, unmoving things people picture. They're alive, shifting, releasing; a reminder that even "solid" landscapes are anything but static.

Phased-array radar used to be something you mostly associated with expensive military systems.
That’s changing.
A few things are coming together:
• GaN (Gallium Nitride) is making RF power devices more efficient and cheaper
• T/R modules (Transmit/Receive modules) are becoming much more integrated
• CMOS / SiGe (Silicon-Germanium) processes are bringing more radar functions onto chips
• Cheaper FPGA, ADC/DAC and SoC chips are cutting the cost of signal processing
• PCB, LTCC and AiP (Antenna-in-Package) are making antenna and RF integration much easier
• Automotive mmWave radar is bringing huge production volumes to the supply chain
The result is pretty simple:
Less custom hardware. More chips. More integration. Much bigger volumes.
Radar is starting to look less like a one-off defense system and more like a semiconductor product.
That’s a big deal for low-cost civilian phased-array radar.
This is seriously scary. CCTV footage from Gyirong Port in Tibet, China, directly opposite Nepal’s Rasuwa district. This flash flood hit here first and later caused massive havoc in Nepal. Can’t even imagine someone surviving this. Prayers for everyone affected. 🙏
