Hi @sumanthraman, I had a quarry owner, a very young person, tell me in detail how this worked. He has a quarry for producing gravel, p-sand and m-sand. He explained how much money each quarry owners had to pay on a WEEKLY BASIS. Yes, weekly basis. The quarry owners association office bearers are tasked with collecting and delivering.
No one had the temerity to talk about this openly during the last 5 years. I have alluded to this in some posts without mentioning any name. I am glad this bootham is also coming out.
Leading a CBSE school for close to 10 years has shown me just how painful it can be to deal with the government machinery.
There are days when you come very close to giving up; not because running a school is difficult, but because you're exhausted from constantly having to give. Even greed should have a ceiling. There has to be a point where they should just live & let live.
Every approval (fire, safety, kitchen, hostel, or any other clearance) seems to come with an expectation of money. Every government meeting happening in the proximity of our school, we are not requested but demanded to provide money, school vans, staff, and other resources.
An example: the FIDE Chess Olympiad in Chennai in 2022. We were instructed to provide a couple of our school vans for advertisement. Huge posters featuring our Chief Minister and the Chess Olympiad branding were put up on our SCHOOL vehicles. A month after the event, when we requested that they be removed, we were told either to leave them as they were or remove them at our own expense (which was not cheap).
What disturbed me even more was hearing government officials openly say that corruption has always existed in TN, but under the current government, they no longer have to hide it or fear getting caught. Those words came from their own mouths.
I'm neither for nor against any political party. But when you endure one blow after another for years, it's only natural to feel relieved, and even celebrate, when the wind changes direction & you finally sense the possibility of a fresh breeze.

This is a complaint today in anonymous bribe reporting portal.
https://t.co/XEHKukZcLx
Until yesterday, the discussion was about party funds. Today, the public has raised concerns about the Mayor Fund.
Corruption is deeply entrenched.
All these complaints warrant a detailed and impartial investigation.
As mentioned earlier, automatic approvals, minimal or no personal discretion, full process transparency, and citizen vigilance are the key steps required for the future. We should make it difficult for anyone in government to even ask for money.
This is a golden opportunity to eliminate corruption from Tamil Nadu. Both the government and the public need to work together towards this goal.
In one month, the TVK govt has managed a remarkable feat on corruption- so many testimonies of land registration, approvals without a bribe now.
Clear then that localised corruption had blessings from the very top previously.
We applied for approval during the previous government through the normal process. I never posted this on X or anywhere else. We endured the delays and "demands".
The approvals came through automatically after the new government came and I am thanking the government in public.
I hear of similar positive experiences from many other people. That is a very refreshing change.
😡Why no media is highlighting this?
Under CM Joseph Vijay , TVK govt have abolished the procedure of taking 3 lakhs as annual license renewal fee from matriculation schools across the state.
Hats off CM Vijay sir🙏
For the first time 300 Assistant Executive Engineers of the @TANGEDCO_Offcl have been promoted as Executive Engineers at a single time. These promotions were granted with complete transparency, without a single rupee of corruption @CTR_Nirmalkumar

Power cuts are going to be a massive headache for #TamilNadu's new government.
Peak demand has already touched 21,307 MW, crossing 21,000 MW five times this summer.
Yet #Chennai residents have faced outages 10 times in a single day.
The DMK's ₹397 crore transformer scam — with a CBI probe ordered by the Madras High Court — left us with looted, underperforming infrastructure.
Much of it was never properly commissioned.
Now heatwaves are predicted across southern states, with cities crossing 41°C.
People are forced to use cooling systems, spiking the load. But our inefficient lines can't handle it — even with extra supply from the central grid. Frequent cuts will continue.
The new government must act quickly — not just with white papers but with real, transparent upgrades.
People are burning in the heat, No more excuses.

I cannot agree with the #DMK’s statement that they lost because of Instagram’s influence. I’m sorry, but your party has spent crores of rupees on Instagram, especially promoting welfare schemes through content creators on the platform. On top of that, many well-known YouTubers are reportedly on the party’s payroll, and your party supporters themselves have a solid subscriber base. YouTube ads and Facebook ads were rampant across multiple levels.
Almost all news channels and prime-time debate shows openly supported the DMK. Opinion polls and exit polls favoured you. Nearly all major dailies, except Dinamalar, backed the DMK, and most journalists appeared to support the party as well.
This is precisely the problem. The masses have clearly understood this partiality. They realised there was no level playing field for the AIADMK and TVK.
Even if these people genuinely supported you, it was widely perceived as a paid activity. The irony is that TVK spent very little on Instagram influencers or YouTube ads. Vijay’s fans often criticise the inactivity of the TVK IT wing, yet these same fans are the ones digging up old videos, creating their own edits, and spreading them across platforms. @TVKVijayHQ is truly blessed to have such dedicated, non-paid groups.
DMK was formed and thrived because of similar selfless youngsters. The major difference is that they were drawn in by Anna and his ideology, whereas TVK’s youngsters are attracted by Vijay’s charisma.
The truth is that DMK has lost those selfless youngsters. Today, most cadres and supporters expect something in return for being active in politics
except for a few. If DMK truly wants to understand what happened, this is it. Nothing more, nothing less.
“No fans chant my name in England. The fact that the fans have got behind me and feeling the love of them, it's amazing. The Chennai, the Chepauk crowd is phenomenal” ~ @JamieOverton
Will miss you man ! Get well soon 💛😭
