It is with profound sorrow that we bid farewell to Jeanne Gibson, our beloved Rosie the Riveter, has passed away today, July 29, 2026, at the remarkable age of 100. With her passing, we don't simply mourn the loss of a beloved friend, we honor the life of an American hero whose courage, dedication, and unwavering spirit helped shape history, and will continue to inspire generations to come.📷📷
At just 18 years old, Jeanne left her home in Minnesota in the summer of 1944 and answered her nation's call, becoming a welder at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle. With determination and grit, she helped build destroyers that strengthened the Allied war effort during World War II. She later continued her service with the Army Transportation Corps in Juneau, Alaska, embodying the resilience and patriotism of the Greatest Generation.
Yet Jeanne's legacy extended far beyond the war. She earned her Ph.D., dedicated three decades to teaching, earned her private pilot license, and spent the rest of her life proving that courage, determination, and purpose know no age.
In 2024, Jeanne and her fellow Rosies were collectively awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, one of our nation's highest civilian honors, recognizing the extraordinary women whose sacrifices and determination helped secure victory during World War II.
To all of us at Pacific Historic Parks, Jeanne was far more than a Rosie, she was family. She traveled to Hawaiʻi time and again to share her remarkable story with visitors, inspire local students, and ensure that the sacrifices of the Home Front would never be forgotten. Her radiant smile, generous heart, and boundless enthusiasm touched every life she encountered.
She had a special gift for encouraging young girls, reminding them that no dream was too big and no obstacle too great. Through her words and her example, she inspired generations to believe in themselves and pursue lives of courage, service, and purpose.
Jeanne remained a tireless advocate for preserving the legacy of the Rosies, volunteering at Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park on "Rosie Fridays" and ensuring the stories of the women who helped win the war would continue to inspire future generations.
In one of life's poignant moments, just days before her passing, Jeanne was celebrated with a Wall of Honor banner at the park she loved so dearly and recognized during a San Jose Earthquakes halftime ceremony honoring Bay Area heroes. It was a fitting tribute to a woman whose life was defined by selfless service, quiet strength, and extraordinary grace.
Though Jeanne has taken her final flight, her legacy will never fade. It lives on in every story she shared, every young person she inspired, every life she touched, and in the enduring example of courage she leaves behind.
Our hearts are with Jeanne's family, her fellow Rosies, and all who were blessed to know and love her.
Rest in peace, Jeanne Gibson.
Thank you for answering the call when your country needed you most. Thank you for showing generations what courage looks like. We will remember you always

He was only 22 when dozens of terrified people crowded into a roadside shelter as Hamas attacked Nova.

When grenades were thrown inside, Aner stood at the entrance and hurled seven of them back with his bare hands.

He knew what it could cost him, and he stayed.

Because of Aner, others made it home.

Aner never did.

That is what a hero looks like.

In July 2013, Emily Kraus and her boyfriend were driving to a Dave Matthews concert in Pennsylvania when they spotted a cyclist stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire.

At first, they drove past.

Then Emily decided to turn around and help.

The cyclist had gone out for a pre concert bike ride before his show at Hersheypark Stadium. His rear tire had gone flat, and he had no cellphone with him to call for help.

So Emily and her boyfriend loaded his bicycle onto their car and offered the stranger a ride.

Then came the unbelievable realization.

The stranded cyclist was Dave Matthews.

The very man they were driving to see perform that night.

Matthews thanked them in a way they never expected. The couple were invited backstage for dinner, given front row seats, and met him again before the show.

Later, Dave even told the crowd about his bicycle adventure and mentioned Emily and her boyfriend by name from the stage.

They had simply turned their car around to help a stranger with a flat tire.

That stranger turned out to be the reason they were on the road in the first place.

Shame kept me from saying anything earlier in memoriam to Sen. Lindsey Graham, who was a truer friend to Jews & Israel than we may ever see in Congress again.

I was a hard-left liberal for most of my life. I used to despise Lindsey Graham. I thought he was a hateful bigot. I mocked him and posted ugly rumors about him on social media.

The Democratic party's abandonment of women's rights and embrace of antisemitism has since turned me into a slightly-left-of-center moderate. When I saw friends posting gleeful comments about Graham's death on Facebook today, I was disgusted, but I also knew that if he had died 6 or 7 years ago, I probably would have done the same.

The truth is, he was never a bigot, but I was. I hated any politician on the right because Hollywood and the media told me they were all racists, homophobes and misogynists. I didn't examine their beliefs, or mine, beyond that.

It took me too long to grow up. I didn't love Lindsay Graham's decision to change course and back Trump, but he was nevertheless a man of integrity who stood by Jews even when it wasn't popular to do so, and who fought for the US' alliance with Israel even when it cost him. May his memory be a blessing.

A mother saw a gun pointed at her son… and without hesitation, she stepped in front of it.

That mother was Jean Gragg.

According to investigators, the 40-year-old was at home when an 18-year-old, John Ford, arrived after arranging to buy a watch from her son through Facebook Marketplace.

Police say the meeting quickly turned into an armed robbery.

Authorities allege Ford pulled out a gun and demanded the watch.

Jean did what so many mothers would do.

She stepped between the gun and her son.

She put herself in harm’s way to protect her child.

Investigators say she chased the suspect off the property, but surveillance video allegedly shows him turning back and firing multiple shots as she ran toward the house. One of those bullets struck Jean in the head.

She fought for her life, but tragically passed away on Saturday.

John Ford has since been charged with murder.

No parent should lose their life trying to save their child over a Facebook Marketplace transaction.

Jean Gragg made the ultimate sacrifice for her son.

She gave birth to her son, and sacrificed her life to save his….thats motherhood❤️‍🩹
