A happy start to the weekend. I emptied the dishwasher, made two cups of tea and took the tea from the kitchen to the bedroom. That may sound prosaic but it was an exciting beginning to Saturday for me.

So here I am, two weeks after my cancerous hip broke, bringing my husband a cup of tea. It’s astonishing and humbling. Every single person - nurses, ambulance men, hospital staff, consultants - so kind and so caring. I could not be more grateful. The NHS is simply amazing.
