@TravelSYorks Three buses with ‘not in service’ just came past Crosspool and one driver pulled over and said to us ‘they’ve stopped sending buses up here’
took @Independent half an hour to take down their erroneous story about Russian blowing up Chernobyl nuclear waste facilities after myself and many others had pointed out it was a mistranslation (guy had said it COULD happen).
Just found out who wrote the article - I previously didn’t know who it was, have never contacted them/been on their profile - click out of interest - see I’ve been preemptively blocked for quite politely pointing out that their news story was incorrect.
What a journalist…
@no_identd@Independent@RichardEngel@RorySullivan92 Don’t know if you’ve read Terry Pratchett’s novel The Truth (you should!), but this quote from it is apt: “A lie can run round the world before the truth has got its boots on.”
@no_identd@Independent@RichardEngel@RorySullivan92 You’re probably right! I don’t know much more because soon after that my lunch break was over 😁 I do understand how in a chaotic situation like this misunderstandings occur among folks on Twitter, but it’s rather grim that professional journalists aren’t checking.
@no_identd@Independent@RichardEngel@RorySullivan92 Not sure that was the initial originator because it doesn’t include the screenshot of what the advisor actually said - which tweets like this one did
@Independent It would be more honest to have corrected or clarified your first post than to pretend you never wrote it. Please fact check properly.
Glad you’ve fixed it though.
