🚨 MICROPLASTICS FOUND IN HUMAN BRAIN TISSUE
A new study discovered microplastics in the olfactory bulb, the brain region responsible for processing smell.
Researchers found plastic fibers as small as 5.5 micrometers, thinner than a human red blood cell, which measures 8 micrometers.
The most common types were polypropylene, used in furniture and clothing, and polyamide (nylon).
Microplastics were previously found in arterial plaque and bloodstream, but this is the first evidence in brain tissue, raising concerns about long-term health effects.
Nanoplastics, smaller than 1,000 nanometers, may also pass through the blood-brain barrier, a shield that protects the brain from harmful substances.
