Canada 🇨🇦 is fighting enormous #wildfires. Firefighters are risking their lives. Families are evacuating. Communities are watching the horizon and wondering whether they’ll still have homes tomorrow.

And a depressing number of Americans demand that #Canada somehow “control” millions of acres of burning wilderness.

The president threatens tariffs…

I’m not that old but I still remember a time when this country used to send help when people were in danger.

Canada is our closest neighbor, one of our oldest allies, and one of the first countries to show up when Americans need help. The common sense response is compassion, cooperation, and every available firefighting resource we can spare.

Helping allies shouldn’t be controversial. Wake the hell up, #USA, and stop acting like petulant children.

🚨BREAKING: ICE agents were filmed assaulting, handcuffing, and kidnapping a U.S. citizen in Passaic, New Jersey… while refusing to even look at the ID he repeatedly begged them to check.

A man is pleading with federal agents to verify who he is…

And they refused.

Instead, one agent says, “We need to get him on the ground,” puts him in a chokehold, throws him to the ground, and multiple agents pile on top of him before handcuffing him, and throwing him into their vehicle.

Under the Fourth Amendment, the government cannot arrest, or seize someone, without probable cause that they have committed, are committing, or are about to commit an offense that authorizes the arrest.

U.S. citizens are also not required to carry identification unless they’re driving a motorized vehicle.

And if federal agents are refusing to verify someone’s identity before arresting them, then they are openly ignoring the constitution.

Which should terrify every American.

Because that means no one is safe from being kidnapped by the government… and disappeared.

Every agent involved should be publicly identified, and DHS should be forced to explain why they believed they had the legal authority to seize someone, while refusing to verify who he was.

This cannot become normal.

🚨This is exactly how ICE agents create the very situations they later use to justify murdering citizens.

In the video, they box in the vehicle of a U.S. citizen. They approach with guns already drawn, and try to open her car door… while repeatedly ordering her to unlock it, and ignoring anything she says.

And notice how they don’t identify themselves. They don’t explain why she’s being detained. They don’t tell her what crime they suspect her of committing.

To the person inside the car, it’s just a group of masked, armed men surrounding her vehicle and trying to force their way in.

That’s how panic starts.

And when people panic, move their car, or try to get away from what they reasonably perceive as a violent threat, ICE agents open fire, and later claim the vehicle was “used as a weapon.”

Law enforcement cannot detain people without legal justification. The Fourth Amendment protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures, and officers are expected to clearly communicate their authority, and the basis for their actions.

They are supposed to de-escalate situations.

Instead, they use tactics to create fear and confusion… making it more likely someone will panic, and easier for agents to claim deadly force was necessary, while they violate the person’s constitutional rights.

When these tactics become standard practice, accountability becomes nonexistent.

Now Collins owns the politics of it. As chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, she played a significant role in funding and expanding ICE.

Maine voters are rightly linking her to an agency associated with what looks more like a gang killing targeting nonwhite residents, with no accountability. The moderate brand that kept her in office for decades has unraveled.

There's a very common playbook that leaders use when they fear that they or their party are going to lose an election. So, here are some of the steps in that authoritarian playbook that you should look out for:

1⃣ Install loyalists to key positions around the elections. The president, unlike his first term, has really put in deep loyalists across the government; in the attorney general’s office, in charge of elections and election security. Putting in people who are more loyal to him than they are to the Constitution and who will do whatever he says.

2⃣ Sow doubt in our election system. The president has been doing this since 2020. He’s talking falsely about how our elections were rigged in 2020. He’s been talking about how the elections we just had in Los Angeles were rigged. He said in the State of the Union this year that if he and his party don't win in November, then the 2026 are rigged. The president has come out against mail-in voting and absentee voting. The president is already starting to do this by suing states across the country, including Michigan, for their voter rolls. He has particularly taken a sharp look at the city of Detroit and in Wayne County. This is all part of a bigger play to sow doubt into the efficacy of our elections.

3⃣ Suggest that there is a crisis threatening our elections. This is all about amping up the stories and the coverage and the tweets about how we are actually in an emergency. That our elections are so unsafe, so problematic, that the president has to declare some sort of emergency.

4⃣ Respond to the perceived threat. Once you've created an emergency and you’ve said our elections are under threat, now the head of state has to respond to that emergency. Maybe they send the uniform military; maybe they send the federal law enforcement; maybe they feel the need to be on location at polling places. Maybe now they are seizing ballots and voting machines.

5⃣ If none of that works and the elections don't go the way of the leader, completely question the results. Sue to try and have them overturned. We lived through this in 2020, and as someone who, on January 6, barricaded herself in her own office, we’ve seen that President Trump does not accept the results of elections that he loses.

I am completely supportive of trusted US hyperscalers building data centers all over the world, including in the UAE. I am not supportive of deeply untrusted UAE companies or the UAE government building those data centers, which is what this regulation permits. And not only that, but by removing the license requirement we no longer can put conditions on future exports, such as restricting remote access to China (which is not restricted in regulations right now, but can be via licenses). We give up all our leverage and control, and allow a country with deep ties to China to build a global competitor to the most important U.S. companies.

There are smart ways to do international partnerships on AI. And then there is this.

NEW: The Department of Commerce just removed all export controls on AI chips on the UAE government and its AI national champion, G42. This is a HUGE deal, poses massive national security risks, will slow the US AI buildout, and will cause the largest data centers in the world to be built in the UAE instead of the US.

These license requirements were in place because of significant national security concerns related to the UAE government and G42 in particular, which are well documented in public reporting. The UAE government and G42 can now buy as many AI chips as they want.

Here's what will likely happen as a result of AI chips being uncapped to the UAE:
(1) The UAE/G42 will buy millions of Blackwell chips (~6 million Blackwells are being made this year, so this would be a big chunk of global capacity);
(2) UAE-owned G42 will build AI data centers globally, and be the first global competitor to U.S. hyperscalers, which currently dominate that market;
(3) The UAE will build the largest data centers in the world, will become the world's second largest hub for AI compute, and leading AI models will be hosted in the UAE.

This will pose enormous national security risks, as the UAE will become one of the most important AI compute hubs in the world, just as it now is for oil, but also a backdoor for China. It will create a massive foreign-owned competitor to the most important US companies. It will provide one of the few countries in the world with the money and interest to build AI models that rival the United States, with the tools to do it. And most importantly, it will exacerbate the already extreme supply shortage for AI chips in the United States, slowing the U.S. AI buildout.

How does the United States benefit from this? How is this America First? This policy just seems like it's Steve Witkoff first, given G42 purchased 49% of World Liberty Financial in 2025 in an effort to convince the administration to let them buy large numbers of AI chips. That seems to have worked.

It is hard to overstate how far-reaching the implications of this decision could be for the global AI infrastructure buildout, which was previously dominated by the US--but now has legitimate non-US competitors that have extensive ties to China. And the AI chip supply crunch for US firms will get tighter, making it even harder to build data centers in the US. Why are we doing this? Who benefits?

DOGE deletes itself on July 4th. It will be remembered as a hugely destructive failure.

Musk promised $2 trillion in savings.

What we got, by DOGE’s own unverified math, was $215 billion. Even that number was never proven.

The costs were atrocious. Nearly 140,000 federal workers pushed out. Veterans waiting longer for care. USAID dismantled while people died overseas as a direct result. 20-year-olds with Red Bulls and no college degrees rummaging through Americans’ most sensitive data.

Musk, the world’s richest man, a federal contractor with billions in government business, auditing the government that pays him, accountable to no voter anywhere. 

Even Musk now says he wouldn’t do it again. The guy who ran it calls it a mistake.

Government reform was there for the taking. Both parties know federal technology is outdated. Both parties know waste exists. Fixing it required serious people working with career civil servants who know where the problems actually are. Instead we got a chainsaw, a photo op, and years of lost expertise we now have to rebuild.

Now Trump’s budget director says there will be no final accounting or receipts. They promised transparency and they’re closing up shop in the dark.
