Whilst @geotraces data is ever expanding, there's very few places in the ocean with seasonal coverage of trace metals. Particularly nice new study from the Celtic shelf constrains seasonal Fe, Mn and Co dynamics @WCBGC_Geomar @amberadium@AntonyBirchill

Melting of marine-terminating glaciers can upwell nutrient rich deeper waters. But *how much* nutrients? Find out how we answered this question in the first first-author paper by @Rhiofthesea from @OceanEarthUoS ! #MarineBiogeochemistry
Excited to say my first first-author paper is fresh out as open access! Link: https://t.co/CuPXekMvHl
We use radium and oxygen isotopes to evaluate the impacts of glacial retreat upon sediment and macronutrient supply along the West Antarctic Peninsula

All done for Project RaCE:TraX on SD025, lots of seawater and mud to analyse thanks to all the support and enthusiastic help from amazing crew and scientists ❤️
#SDAScience continues, on to moorings and Hesperides Deep!
More of the fantastic #SDAScience on board from the multidisciplinary science party. We had it up on the big screen in the lounge, great evening viewing :)
Today I learned that male sea spiders carry and care for eggs and young. Huge shout-out to @mehulbhaiphd who is single parenting our 3-month-old son so that I can be out here doing the #SDAScience I am passionate about. #momademia
It was a great experience joining this meeting by satellite link! A chance to highlight the facilities for #SDAScience as well as why marine #biogeochemistry research in the #SouthernOcean is so important
Sir David Attenborough ❤️ & the RRS Sir David Attenborough 🚢
We’re working to raise the profile of polar science for the future of our #climate and planet earth.
Huge thanks to MPs, @APPGPolar + @CommonsSpeaker for hosting us and our exhibit in Portcullis House in Westminster.
@oceans_and_ice @LabratSR@OceanEarthUoS Definitely one of the most amazing views of my life, looking straight down onto the ice as the ship pushed through. A wonderful treat from the crew to give us such a rare opportunity ❤️
Absolutely stunning weather as we head south in the Weddell Sea! The PICCOLO team will deploy a mooring that will collect oceanographic data and samples for the next 12 months. And I'll get some samples too! #SDAScience@OceanEarthUoS
@S_Ocean_sof I should have turned the stand around to show the BEAUTIFUL long cores! They have now been processed for porewaters to better understand nutrient supply from sediment to the Southern Ocean #SDAScience
A beautiful day for our first full station with the new clean chemistry CTD. Tough samples to get! So many people have worked so hard to get the sampling system and clean lab ready, I'm honoured my project is the first to benefit :) #SDAScience@OceanEarthUoS@BAS_News
We’re this happy to be crossing 60°S and getting our metal-free towfish in the water to collect surface water for trace metal analysis! The towfish is connected to over 50m of tubing and feeds straight into our clean lab onboard the #SDA! Pretty darn cool! #SDAScience
Just about to start cleaning and filling this glorious clean chemistry lab on board the #RRSSirDavidAttenborough. Look at all that room, and saves the time of building a clean space at the start of the cruise. #Luxury!
I finally get to see the RRS Sir David Attenborough today! I'll be setting up for some #SDAScience on the polar science trials expedition, leaving from the beautiful Falkland Islands on Tuesday :) Stay tuned for our progress! With @OceanEarthUoS@BAS_News
When chunks of ice fall off a glacier and into the ocean, does it mix the water, redistributing heat and salinity?
Yes! Through *internal tsunamis* ! Our new paper shows how they work and why they matter 🤓
First sediment cores arrived yesterday in the lab for porewater sampling. We'll be looking at nutrients, trace metals, radium and mercury from the seafloor under 2464m of ocean. #NIOZMetalGate21#RaCeTraX#fieldworkfriday
