On Monday, 11 May 2026, my house help, Elsie Shalom, who had been working with me for about a month through an agency based in Bonaberi, stole several of my belongings and disappeared.

That morning, I left home for work as usual and left Shalom at the house. She was supposed to do the weekly shopping with money I sent through my cousin shortly after I arrived at the office.

We live around Makepe Rond-Point Polyclinic, and part of her routine was to pick up my son from school at 2:00 PM daily. However, shortly after 2:45 PM, the school contacted me to inform me that no one had come to pick him up.

I immediately tried calling her multiple times, but she did not answer. I then contacted my cousin, who went to pick up my son and later returned home with him. Upon arrival, he noticed that the front door was open and the house was empty.

When we entered my son’s room, we found it completely scattered, and three pieces of luggage were missing. My cousin then checked my room and discovered that she had emptied almost everything:
- shoes
- dresses
- wigs
- handbags
- jewelry
- laptop
- money
and several other personal belongings.

Looking back, we also realized that a few days earlier my purse containing money had mysteriously disappeared, but at the time we assumed it had been misplaced.

As of now, she remains unreachable. Her phone has been switched off, and the agency has been trying to contact her family, but no one claims to know where she is.

This situation could have been far worse, especially considering current events we hear about today. We strongly believe this act was premeditated and possibly not her first offense.
