Today we remember Milan Rastislav Štefánik, our national hero, general, scientist and one of the men who helped bring 🇨🇿#Czechoslovakia into being. 107 years after his tragic death, his life remains part of Slovakia’s historical memory.
His path began with a love of knowledge and science. Astronomy opened the world to him; history then called him to serve in another way. With courage, determination and a deep love for his homeland, he helped show that the future state of Czechs and Slovaks deserved its place on the map of 🇪🇺 #Europe.
🇸🇰 Štefánik reminds us that love of country is strongest when joined with knowledge, responsibility and the courage to act. Slovakia has such people today as well, some of them perhaps still sitting in classrooms and lecture halls.
🇸🇰🇪🇺 Today marks 22 years since Slovakia joined the European Union.
It was one of the most important milestones in our modern history. We became part of a community built on freedom, democracy, cooperation and respect for human dignity. 🤝
For Slovakia, the EU is more than funds or projects. It is our strategic space. It is a place where we can grow, prosper, travel, study, work and decide as an equal partner at the common European table. 🌍
Europe today faces many serious challenges. That is why we need an EU that is strong, united, practical and respected in the world. An EU that protects its interests, reduces unnecessary burdens, strengthens cooperation and helps bring peace. 🕊️
A respected Europe means a respected Slovakia. And a stronger Europe means a stronger Slovakia.
The Business Forum is the beating heart of the #3SI — where business meets business, capital meets governments, and partnerships turn into growth for our region.
Looking ahead, I see five priorities for strengthening our shared prosperity:
👉 Better connected — so goods, people, information and energy can move faster and more efficiently.
👉 Better skilled — with education and talent that drive innovation.
👉 More respected — ensuring our region’s voice is heard on the international stage.
👉 Less overregulated — creating more space for innovation and implementation. Overregulation kills innovation.
👉 Better protected — ready to navigate an increasingly unpredictable world 🌍
The Three Seas region has enormous potential, and the Business Forum helps turn that potential into action.
Slovakia looks forward to hosting this key forum at the @3seaseu Summit next year.
🇱🇦🤝🏻🇸🇰 After nearly 10 years, a bilateral meeting at the level of foreign ministers was held. Minister J. Blanár and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of #Laos, Thongsavanh Phomvihane, discussed current foreign policy issues, ways to intensify bilateral dialogue, and boost trade, particularly in the areas of hydropower, digitalization, and tourism.
Had a productive meeting with Croatian Prime Minister @AndrejPlenkovic at the 3SI Summit in Dubrovnik. We discussed key bilateral areas, focusing on energy security, the competitive EU landscape, and collaboration in nuclear policy.
The recent oil crises highlighted the importance of our cooperation in energy security—Croatia's role has been vital for Slovakia. Looking forward to strengthening our partnership! 🇭🇷🤝🇸🇰 #3SISummit #EnergySecurity
Great discussion at the #3SI2026.
As Slovakia is taking over the Presidency in the Initiative from #Croatia our goal is clear: to make the Three Seas region more competitive and more attractive globally.
Physical connectivity - the roads, railways and pipelines are the lifelines for our growth and prosperity.
But, it is also the talant that is crucial for our future. We must build connectivity of talents and corridors of innovation.
🇸🇰 Minister J. Blanár: Hungarian voters have expressed their will, and #Slovakia fully respects the results of our neighbour’s democratic vote 🇭🇺 As a neighbouring country, a partner in the #EU, and an ally within #NATO, we congratulate the winner of the elections, @magyarpeterMP and the TISZA party on their clear and decisive victory. We firmly believe that our relations will continue to be based on the principles of mutual respect and constructive cooperation, contributing to the further development of friendly ties between our nations. We also thank the outgoing government of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for its cooperation 🤝🏻
Today marks one year since Pope Francis passed away.
I remember our meetings with deep respect. His warmth, humility, and calm strength left a lasting impression on me. He reminded us that true leadership begins with service, compassion, and closeness to those who need help the most.
Slovakia honors a man of peace, humanity, and hope. His legacy continues to inspire us. 🇸🇰🇻🇦
STORIES OF COURAGE AND HUMANITY MUST NOT BE FORGOTTEN
The courage, humanity, and moral conviction of those who risked their own lives during the Holocaust to save the persecuted remain a powerful message for our time as well. That is why I was honored to assume patronage over the ceremonial presentation of the Righteous Among the Nations awards.
Let us remember the tragic events of our history and not allow them to fade from our minds and our hearts. Let us honor the memory of the innocent people who lost their lives to violence. And above all, let us give thanks to those who found the courage to help, even at the risk of placing themselves and their loved ones in mortal danger.
THE HOLY FATHER’S CALL FOR PEACE MUST NOT BECOME A TARGET OF POLITICAL ATTACKS
I consider the Holy Father’s call for peace to be one of the strongest voices urging an end to killing in an increasingly dangerous world. The pursuit of peace, tranquility, and the preservation of life embodies the fundamental principles of Christianity, and the head of the Catholic Church is fully justified in calling for them.
I therefore find it very sad—and I reject—that the Holy Father becomes a target of political attacks because of these words. In this case, he does not represent himself, but billions of people around the world who identify with Christianity and its ideals. It was to them that the Pope’s appeal was also directed—that those who have the power to start wars should choose peace.
If the effort for peace and the desire to preserve human life become the driving force of the world’s most powerful politicians, the Earth will become a calmer and safer place to live. Especially for smaller nations and states like Slovakia, which depend on the observance of international rules.
The people of Hungary decided in democratic elections on the composition of their parliament.
I believe that relations between Slovakia and Hungary will maintain the excellent level they have had in recent years and will continue to be based on mutual respect, cooperation, shared membership in the 🇪🇺 #European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance, good neighborliness, and friendship. 🇸🇰🤝🇭🇺
I had constructive discussions with Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili today at the Presidential Palace 🇸🇰🇬🇪.
We reaffirmed Slovakia’s full respect for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as our support for its 🇪🇺 #European integration — a sovereign choice for every country.
#Bratislava is a place for open and meaningful dialogue with partners from across the 🌍 #world. Diplomacy remains the key to resolving any conflicts and tensions!
WE WANT TO CONTINUE COOPERATION WITH HUNGARY ON ENERGY SECURITY
A few minutes ago, I had a phone conversation with the winner of the Hungarian elections, Mr. Péter Magyar. I congratulated him on his result and invited him, as the newly elected Prime Minister, to pay a traditional visit to Slovakia.
An official visit by Péter Magyar to Slovakia, or my visit to Budapest, will be preceded by a working meeting at the EU summit in Brussels.
I emphasized that Slovak–Hungarian relations have for many years not been a subject of political competition, and that I care about the good coexistence of Slovaks and Hungarians in Slovakia.
The main reason for my call with Péter Magyar was to learn about the positions of the new Hungarian political leadership regarding the reopening of the Druzhba oil pipeline and the lawsuit against the RePowerEU regulation, which the Slovak Republic and Hungary are filing against the EU in connection with the halt of Russian gas and oil supplies. I suggested discussing any other topics in person.
Referring to the fact that Péter Magyar is not yet officially the Prime Minister of Hungary, the winner of the Hungarian elections responded to my questions only in general terms. However, it clearly emerged from the conversation that Péter Magyar’s priority in Slovak–Hungarian relations is, and will be, the Beneš Decrees, on which we have fundamentally different positions.
Today, we proudly celebrate 🇸🇰 Slovakia’s 22nd anniversary of joining #NATO—a truly significant milestone that has strengthened our security, reinforced our sovereignty, and deepened our bonds with democratic partners across the globe.
In a rapidly evolving world, where multilateral cooperation is increasingly tested, ensuring security remains one of the most important responsibilities of any government. Our NATO membership stands as a cornerstone of that effort—providing stability, confidence, and protection for our citizens.
Together with our Allies, we stand united and resolute—committed to safeguarding peace, strengthening cooperation, and building a more secure and resilient Euro-Atlantic future for generations to come.
The first official visit of the President of #Moldova to #Slovakia! Dear @sandumaiamd, welcome to Bratislava.
Based on years of 🇸🇰-🇲🇩 friendship and trust, we are boosting cooperation with Moldova. We had a good discussion on energy security and the #EU accession. I confirmed that Slovakia is ready to share our integration experience. Once a country meets the criteria📝✅️, the door should be open.
🇪🇺 Stronger together! 🤝
STOP HATRED AND DEHUMANIZATION IN THE PUBLIC SPACE
84 years ago, the railway station in Poprad became the place from which a thousand Slovak Jewish girls and women were sent on a journey with no return. Let us honor them with a moment of silence and remember all victims of this monstrous ideology.
Let us stand against all forms of hatred that divide society and dehumanize people. We must ensure that such a tragedy never happens again. At the same time, let us remember the courage of those who stood up to evil and, despite fear, defended humanity and fought for freedom.
