@AshwiniVaishnaw@AshwiniVaishnaw Great and much needed initiative. this the time to start work on foundational techs like EUV Lithography? If we have a 20 year view we should ensure we break all bottlenecks and threats of sanctions, and that won’t be possible without foundational tech.. thx 🙏🏽
This narrative that AI will “decimate” India fundamentally misunderstands India and Indians.
Indians reach the top everywhere in the world — CEOs of Google, Microsoft, IBM, Adobe, Mastercard. Not with special advantages, but often despite starting with fewer.
What holds back India isn’t talent or drive — it’s been infrastructure gaps, policy friction, and lack of systemic support.
We’ve always known how to build quality under constraints. When Renault first partnered with Mahindra, their CEO was stunned — world-class production facilities built at a fraction of Western costs. And now, Renault’s global CEO Luca de Meo calls their India engineering centre “one of the wheels of our system.” Frugal Engineering isn’t a compromise. It’s a distinct capability.
AI doesn’t threaten that. It amplifies it. It democratizes the ability to build. For the first time, a sharp founder anywhere in India — or the world — can build what previously needed a $2M seed round and an ecosystem in Silicon Valley or Bengaluru. The barriers that held us back are collapsing — and I believe we have the potential to build for the world.
Yes, the compute costs and capital required to build foundational models like GPT or Gemini may be beyond reach for most Indians (though not all) — but that’s not the only place value is created. Coca-Cola didn’t win because they built the refrigerator. They won because they used it to create value for consumers. Infrastructure enables, solution captures. In AI terms, we may not build the refrigerator — at least not immediately — but we will build the brands and products that fill its shelves.
The question is not whether India will survive this supposed AI apocalypse. We will thrive.
The real question is where the value of all this building gets captured — in Bangaluru and Mumbai, or in Dubai and Singapore? Will these startups grow into global giants headquartered in India, or will we let them be sold and cheer from afar?
That’s where our government needs to evolve its mindset — from regulating to enabling, from directing to cheerleading, from compliance to trust.
Simplify company formation. Fix ESOP frameworks. Ease compliance for early-stage startups. Build pathways that keep global-scale companies domiciled in India.
A startup in every house isn’t a dream — it’s the opportunity.
The window is now. The question is whether policy moves fast enough to capture it.
