📣 Check this out!! One of the most inspiring moments of the #2026ALCSISummit was watching a powerful compilation of video messages from more than 25 national leaders—including governors, mayors, public health commissioners, and other public officials from across the United States!

Each leader encouraged our students to continue advocating for lung cancer, ask bold questions, build meaningful connections, and make the most of every opportunity throughout the Summit. Their words served as a powerful reminder that meaningful change happens when passionate individuals come together with a shared purpose.

Their project, BreatheSafe: Radon Exposure Awareness Initiative, educates communities about radon—the second-leading cause of lung cancer—and promotes testing to identify this hidden risk found in approximately 1 in 15 homes.

🥉 Congratulations to our 2026 ALCSI Innovation Challenge Third Place winner, Ava Villacorta, a Rising 12th Grade student from Corona, California!

Her project, Breath of Remembrance, shares the stories of individuals affected by lung cancer through student-created visual and performing arts to inspire conversations about lung cancer screening and raise awareness.

🥈 Congratulations to our 2026 ALCSI Innovation Challenge Second Place winners, Rohan Kundra (Rising 12th Grade) of Malvern, Pennsylvania, and Neil Thakkar (Rising 11th Grade) of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania!

Their project, LungFACTS (Follow-up Analytics and Community Targeting System), combines an AI patient navigator with a national lung cancer screening tracking system to simplify care navigation, improve access, and help patients complete every step of the screening process.

🏆 Congratulations to our 2026 ALCSI Innovation Challenge First Place winners, Jeevat Sethi (Rising 8th Grade) and Arsheen Sethi (Rising 10th Grade) of Highland Mills, New York!

Their project, Breathe Easy Initiative, increases awareness of lung cancer screening by connecting eligible adults with potentially life-saving low-dose CT scans through community education, partnerships, and outreach.

📣 The inaugural ALCSI Lung Cancer Innovation Challenge has officially concluded!

Launched in the fall of 2025, this international competition brought together more than 1,000 middle and high school students from around the world to develop innovative solutions to raise awareness of the lifesaving importance of lung cancer screening.

Following an incredibly competitive selection process, 10 outstanding finalist teams were invited to present their projects live at the #2026ALCSISummit.

Throughout the weekend, these students showcased remarkable creativity, passion, and dedication to improving the future of lung cancer awareness and early detection.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our distinguished panel of judges—including lung cancer survivors, patient advocates, industry leaders, and world-renowned physicians—who generously volunteered their time and expertise to thoughtfully evaluate each team’s work. Your encouragement and commitment made this experience truly meaningful for our students.

Congratulations to every student who participated in this inaugural challenge. Your innovation, curiosity, and determination remind us that meaningful change can begin with a single idea.

The next Hackathon team is exploring how wearable technology can promote lung cancer screening. Their idea uses smartwatch and wearable notifications to educate users about lung cancer screening, alert eligible individuals when it’s time to begin screening, and remind patients when they are due for follow-up low-dose CT (LDCT) screening. #ALCSI

The next Hackathon team is presenting BeriMap, an innovative initiative designed to better understand why people who are eligible for lung cancer screening choose not to be screened. By identifying the real-life barriers and challenges individuals face, BeriMap aims to generate insights that can inform more effective, patient-centered strategies to improve screening participation. #ALCSI

The next Hackathon team is tackling one of the biggest challenges in lung cancer screening: improving follow-up rates after low-dose CT (LDCT) screening. Their innovative solution includes automated reminders in the electronic medical record (EMR) to notify primary care physicians when a patient is due for follow-up screening, along with patient portal reminders to help keep individuals on track with their recommended care. #ALCSI

Hackathon presentations have begun! One team is proposing a workplace resource fair that encourages employers to educate and support their employees in getting screened for lung cancer. A creative approach to bringing screening awareness directly into the workplace!!! #ALCSI

Our interactive Clinical Teaching session was a phenomenal success! We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from master clinicians and deepen our understanding of the fundamentals of medicine. It was an incredible experience to hear from Dr. Lauren Kearney, Dr. Colleen Keyes, Dr. Stephen Yang (@SteveYangMD), and Dr. Hari Keshava (@hari_keshava), and Dr. Jeffrey Yang (@ChiFuJeffYang) whose expertise and passion inspired the next generation of physicians. #ALCSI
