Almost a year ago, 20 infants lost their lives at DHQ Hospital Pakpattan. Today, we are witnessing another tragedy at PIMS.

This is not a one-off failure, it is a systemic crisis. A tragedy happens, outrage follows, everyone forgets, and then we wait for the next tragedy.

یہ وہ بدنصیب معاشرہ ہے جہاں حسین کا نام رسم دنیا نبھانے کے لیے عقیدت سے لیا جاتا ہے، لیکن طرز عمل اور کردار میں یزیدیت کی پیروی کی جاتی ہے۔ یہاں اخلاقیات کی بڑی بڑی باتیں صرف واٹس ایپ اسٹیٹس اور ٹویٹر کی پوسٹوں کی حد تک محدود ہیں، جبکہ حقیقت یہ ہے کہ اپنی باطنی غلاظت اور اخلاقی پستی سے ہم خود بخوبی واقف ہیں۔
ستم ظریفی یہ ہے کہ ہم زبانی کلامی تو مقتول کے ہمدرد اور ظالم کے دشمن بنتے ہیں، مگر اپنے عمل اور رویوں سے خاموشی کے ساتھ اسی قاتل اور ظالم کے سہولت کار ��ا کردار ادا کر رہے ہوتے ہیں۔
اگر نویں محرم الحرام کا یہ مقدس اور ایثار کا دن بھی ہمیں ہمارے گریبانوں میں جھانکنے اور ہماری اس بھیانک منافقت کا احساس دلانے میں ناکام رہے، تو پھر ہمیں خود سے یہ سوال ضرور پوچھنا چاہیے کہ کیا ہم واقعی مسلمان کہلانے کے حقدار ہیں؟

We usually see intense outrage on other issues. They’ll see a girl in a kurta with arabic calligraphy and 500 men will surround her immediately wanting to kill her. Where is the outrage when a child is raped and killed? Where are the maulvis who usually threaten to shut down the country? Or do they only come out against the child marriage restraint act? Where is the angry mob? Where are all the so called saviors? Where is that vile designer who claims marginalized communities are destroying our values, our culture and children? These rapists don’t destroy the fabric of your society? Why are all these people suddenly so quiet. They are usually the first ones to preach.

@neurlfoundry There is no confidence in judiciary. If implementation of law was there these cases could have been curbed to a great extent already. The society we have created in Pakistan is worst than being in jungle.

Children should be able to walk to a local shop without being assaulted, raped, or killed. Yes, parents should be cautious. But the burden should not be on children to disappear from public life so predators can remain comfortable in it. The fact that our response is “keep your daughters indoors” rather than “remove predators from society” says everything about how badly we have failed.

Thousands of children in Kasur were raped & videotaped, blackmailed & are still without justice. Zainab, Uzma, Kamran, the little boys of Shahrag, the little bachabaazi victims at trucks stood, coal mines, the brothels with sex workers age 9 up. And now this child raped & found dead above a grocery store.

Yet none of this is really a priority is it?

The relentless news keeps building. But as long as the powerful keep getting richer & more powerful, it doesn’t really matter.

We have become ridiculously desensitised.

Yet most of the people turning a blind eye to the LACK of child protection in Pakistan are deeply religious.
Curious. How do you all think your silence on every platform will show up on judgment day?
Because it will.

I stopped believing in a fair world when I started working with children’s rights & children in shelters 35 years ago.
But I do believe in the justice of Allah.
And Alhamdolillah I still do believe in the compassion & kindness of the human race.
There are angels amongst us that keep my faith in humanity alive.

In the mean time…. I request today as I did during Kasur… as I did in 2011-2013-2017-2018- & every year since I’ve been active on social media…

Please speak up and demand child protection, awareness & safe guarding for children, campaigns all over Pakistan.

This pandemic of child sexual abuse needs to stop.

It’s beyond insane how society has allowed it and how complicit all of those who continue to be silent are.
