Big Humane Ai Pin milestone: Full preservation of the original experience, entirely on-device.
I've applied Humane's UX work and polish so we can build whatever functionality we want

If you have an Apple Vision Pro and wanted to try this PCVR streamer that takes advantage of visionOS’ new Foveated Streaming Framework, the TestFlight is out: https://t.co/U2a9lnfCQI
Requires visionOS 26.4 or later
PC server app: https://t.co/NZmlKtvq9P
The first PC VR local streaming client that takes advantage of visionOS 26.4’s built in Foveated Streaming framework is coming to TestFlight very soon!
It is called ClearXR and taps into NVIDIA’s OpenXR runtime: it already performs much better for PCVR gaming than ALVR

It's been a while since I gave an update on PenumbraOS for Humane Ai Pin. Much has happened recently - there have been 139 new commits by me on Penumbra in the past month alone
I hate doing this, but see the next tweet for what I've been working on:

finding a little bit of joy today.
reminiscing on ai pin.
there are zero new devices available that brought as much joy as ai pin and we literally have the same devices that haven’t really changed much in 18 yrs.
The Humane Ai Pin is no longer a useless black box
I've spent ~400 hours building PenumbraOS to make the Pin into a dev platform. We easy access to privileged APIs; pictured is OAI's real-time streaming API tunneled via WebSockets.
Let's build together: https://t.co/tiiskRTlmx
After a ridiculous amount of reverse engineering work into this super locked down device, I installed the first ever custom eSIM on the Humane Ai Pin.
It will take a while to get the code ready as it needs other tooling I built, but watch https://t.co/YNBafR2cNM for the release.
they tried to shut it down.
we brought it back.
with a $25 tool and a few lines of code, the ai pin lives again.
your moment is now. join us — https://t.co/HyiRcAt0i5
humane ai pin owners - we’re sorry for your loss, and we’re here to help.
to start, we’re giving away 500 free r1s to humane ai pin owners looking for a new ai companion 🧵
Humane says the Ai Pin will stop connecting to Humane servers and .Center access will be "fully retired" on February 28, 2025 at 12 p.m. PST
Customer data will be permanently deleted from the servers on the same date and time. (Download your data before then!)
Humane says it's "moving onto new endeavors."
They won't be providing Charge Case replacements anymore. (Think we all saw that coming.) You'll get a refund for the value of the case if you've been waiting for a replacement.
As for the Ai Pin device itself... it basically becomes a paperweight as it won't connect to the server. The number you had with it can't be ported to another carrier. "We encourage you to recycle your Ai Pin through an e-waste recycling program. Many electronics retailers and local recycling centers accept wearable devices."
Humane also says that "Ai Pin will still allow for offline features like battery level, etc., but will not include any function that requires cloud connectivity like voice interactions, AI responses, and .Center access." (Any hackers want to hack the shit out of the Ai Pin?)
It's really too bad... I still believe the team were trying to do something good to curb technology addiction. Unfortunately, most people simply didn't understand the value of being more present. Most people don't realize how trapped in their gizmos and algorithms they are or they're in denial they have an addiction
