This is what responsible AI leadership looks like: innovation paired with safeguards. Human safety must come before the race to build more powerful AI.
Our highest and most urgent national priority should be AI safeguards. The risks of AI weapons, pathogens, mass unemployment, surveillance, and even extinction must not continue to be largely ignored.
One of the top concerns among AI safety experts is the possibility of very advanced AI being used to create biological weapons.
The fact that the top AI CEOs are taking this stance shows how worried they are as well.

Americans deserve AI that's tested, verified, and safe before it's deployed on the public.
Today, we stood with a bipartisan group of allies to demand exactly that. Trump’s EO is a good first step — now Congress must establish clear accountability standards for frontier AI before deployment.
BREAKING: The Great American AI Act (GAAIA) just dropped — a sweeping 269-page federal AI bill from Reps. Obernolte & Trahan. (per @PunchbowlNews)
What's in it:
• Preempts ALL state AI laws on model development for THREE YEARS
• Puts AI auditing in the hands of independent verification organizations (IVOs)
• Jurisdiction split across NIST, DOE, DOJ, NSF & DOL
Why am I interviewing a computer?"
That question from a @nytimes journalist after meeting AI "actress" Tilly Norwood gets at something deeper than technology.
As AI becomes more human-like, we should pause and ask: What are we gaining, and what are we losing?

Today, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeir @AGJamesUthmeier filed suit against OpenAI and its Chief Executive Sam Altman alleging they knowingly released an unsafe product and ignored warnings that their product could harm users.
According to The Wall Street Journal, “The 83-page suit alleges that OpenAI allowed ChatGPT to aid and abet mass shooters, encouraged people to take their own lives, degraded users’ critical thinking skills and addicted minors to a tool that feigns human compassion.
Technology is like a workbench for the entire human race, and AI could be its greatest asset, aiding and amplifying many forms of work. But the most powerful AI systems threaten to go beyond this use of technology as a tool. @chitribopinions

"The problem is that the efficiency and frictionlessness that make AI appealing to writers are the same qualities that make it feel untrustworthy to readers."

The Editorial Board at the @WSJ says, "There’s no doubt that as AI develops it will need an ethical rudder, and the pope’s contributions are worth listening to. But his faith in a beneficent state is misplaced."

"The encyclical also takes a hard line against autonomous-weapons systems. 'Moral judgment cannot be reduced to calculation, for it involves conscience, personal responsibility and the recognition of the other as a person,' Leo writes. 'Therefore, it is not permissible to entrust lethal or otherwise irreversible decisions to artificial systems.'"

Two men describing their experiences with AI psychosis and delusions:
"'It’s like we were cult members who had escaped the same cult,' Alary says.
Brooks is now the chief community officer for the nonprofit, whereby he helps people break out of their delusions. Holding weekly online meetings, the group has collected nearly 500 stories of AI delusions across 18 countries.
'These situations can go from someone having a good job and a family to a year later having no job, getting divorced and being homeless,' Brooks says. 'It’s incredibly isolating, and there’s a lot of rebuilding that has to happen.'"

AI is a top priority for Pope Leo XIV. Today, the Vatican published a key document outlining his position on AI, humanity, and more.

In a few days, the Pope will share his new document and stance on AI and human dignity. Part of what makes this document so unique is how many non-Catholics and non-Christians are eagerly anticipating it.

Sen. Sanders: The people building AI admit they may not be able to control it. This is not science fiction—this is what experts are telling us.

Many people are angry about AI because they feel it's being forced on them, and because those pushing it treat them like they're stupid if they dare to question it.
