@eerdappel@parismarx@AMT_technology And when building a new hi speed line, Maglev is comparable or cheaper depending on the Vmax you aim for. It's really about biting the bullet, building isolated infra all the way into the stations, and delivering not only a fast but also a reliable connection.

The German #Transrapid system proved itself in Shanghai and has inspired China to learn to build it themselves under license. @ThePizzaMuncher There's also the Chūō superconductor maglev (sc maglev) in Japan, that is a different technology that requires a more airplane style of boarding due to the stronger electromagnetic fields. Good to research options, but i perdonally favor the #Transrapid-based types of technology.
