Everywhere is silent while bandits massacre 23 farmers in Sauna/Ruwan Gora community, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State. More than 50 people have been hospitalized, the majority of them women and children.
This attack happened in a village near the hometown of Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. The Northwest is gradually becoming a graveyard, yet the suffering of its people continues to receive little attention.

These are the bodies of 23 lifeless Northerners recently massacred by bandits. Reported that about 50 women & children were also injured and hospitalized. Not even a statement from Minister of Defence whose village is nearby. It’s not even tending on Northern media.

If tomorrow, institutions in the North announced that any woman wearing a miniskirt, “immodest” clothing, or without a hijab would be barred from sitting for JAMB, WAEC, or NECO, the reaction across the country would be immediate and intense. and rightly so.

Yet when Muslim girls in some parts of the South face challenges or restrictions over wearing the hijab during examinations, the response is often muted or inconsistent. That inconsistency raises serious concerns about fairness and equal protection of religious rights.

Religious freedom should not be selective. Whether it involves dressing modestly according to one’s faith or wearing a hijab, the principle should remain the same: no student should be denied access to education or examinations because of their religious expression.
