@HeidiGASL I am not sure I can make an overall assumption like this. But I can tell you there are a lot of novice signers teaching ASL. What does that do for supporting ASL as a rich language used by the Deaf community? This definitely raises concerns for #DeafEd.

@HeidiGASL @drjodifalk No it isn't fair. It contributes to the continued cycle of oppression of Deaf people which means low academic skills, high rates of underemployment, unemployment etc. Unacceptable. The mess #DeafEd is in can be blamed on the value on hearing and not learning.

@KymPMeyer you'd be surprised what 's being taught in #DeafEd programs.. I've seen some good ones, and others that feel "obligated" to teach everything so that the teacher can meet any type of need, thus good at nothing, but "knows a bit about everything".

@rafnarr I agree, ASL is not a spoken language and to best use it, it can be used along with written English for a BLA approach not as a signed/spoken modality- that cheats Deaf children. #DeafEd
