Work is continuing nonstop in the village of Myla in the Kyiv region to address the aftermath of the Russian strike. First responders have managed to extinguish most of the fires. Explosive ordnance disposal units of the State Emergency Service are also working at the site around the clock, detecting and neutralizing explosive hazards. The scale of contamination in the area is significant, and this work will continue for as long as necessary. Tragically, 38 people have been reported killed by the strike and the subsequent detonation. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Twenty people were injured, including two children. Four people are reported missing. The search for them continues. I am grateful to all the services that remain there with our people and continue to help.

These days, there have also been many air raid alerts in Kyiv and other regions because of Russian jet-powered drones. Unfortunately, some of them have struck ordinary residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Providing greater protection against this Russian terror is a priority. In total, this week alone, the Russians have launched nearly 2,000 strike drones, more than 1,600 aerial bombs, and 31 missiles of various types, including North Korean ballistic missiles, against our people. Strikes on frontline and border communities are virtually constant – Nikopol, Kramatorsk, Kherson, and communities in the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Donetsk, and Sumy regions. We are seeking just responses to every Russian strike and crime. They will certainly come. Thank you to everyone who is helping strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and our protection.

We remember Prigozhin, although that looked like a serious but foolish attempt.

It wasn’t clear what Prigozhin was trying to achieve, and he was dead in an air crash within a couple of months.

That was a classic case of somebody looking as if he was brandishing a knife against Caesar, and then not doing it.

Whoever brandishes the knife has got to use it.

What’s interesting is that Julius Caesar was stabbed something like 25 times, but only two of the wounds were fatal.

The Institute for Science and International Security reports Russia has started putting up large lattice towers around the Shahed production site at Alabuga SEZ.

The towers are designed to hold metal mesh as passive protection against drone and missile strikes. An inner ring surrounds the key production workshops, while a taller outer ring extends further to also cover the carbon fiber supply plant.

Construction started sometime after May 18.

“European leaders’ primary responsibility is to protect their people from Russian threats, not to protect Russia from itself,” Radosław Sikorski says in an op-ed for The Economist.

🔹 The Polish foreign minister urged European leaders to stop fearing that resisting Russia could provoke an even more dangerous response.

“No matter what the Kremlin does, fears that, if resisted, it may do something even more reckless are still used as an argument for caving in to Russian demands.”

🔹 Sikorski argues that Europe should abandon its policy of appeasement and take a firmer approach toward Moscow.

🔹 He recalls how, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the West repeatedly sought to integrate Russia into the international system rather than isolate or humiliate it.

“Today, almost five years after igniting the bloodiest European war since 1945, Russia is again trying to get its way by threatening escalation.”

🔹 Sikorski says fears of Russia’s potential collapse or nuclear escalation should not dictate Western policy.

“Both arguments are misguided. Fears that sustained pressure would result in the state’s break-up are overstated.”

🔹 According to Sikorski, Moscow has long been testing the West’s resolve through military and hybrid actions.

“These are not random provocations. They are carefully calibrated tests of resolve.”

🔹 Against this backdrop, he warns that premature negotiations with the Kremlin could strengthen Putin domestically, encourage further hybrid operations, weaken European support for Ukraine, and deepen divisions within the West.

“The uncomfortable truth is that Europe must accept greater risk in the short term to avoid far more serious dangers in the future.”

🔹 @sikorskiradek concludes that Europe’s priority should be protecting its own people rather than shielding Russia from the consequences of its actions.
