Arattai was founded by Sridhar Vembu, a Tamilian entrepreneur with zero political connection to the BJP.
But the moment the GoI/a few ministers endorsed Arattai as a desi alternative to WhatsApp amid the India–US tech conflict, these same people started labeling him a Sanghi who’s out to steal data.
They have no problem sharing all their personal information with foreign companies but suddenly become “privacy experts” when it comes to an Indian app.
And the irony? These are the same folks who keep crying that Modi Govt is “anti-Tamil,” yet they’re now attacking a Tamil entrepreneur just because nationalists supported him.
The truth is, these Leftists hate anything that’s pro-India or helps India grow.
In 2017, I bought a beautiful white fur jacket in Australia to wear in Europe in Dec. I paid a little less than AU $200 (INR 10k). Before flying back, I left the jacket in my friend's basement with the intention of coming back to visit again (which never happened. In 2023, his parents couriered the jacket back to me since they knew how fond I was of it. I got a call from @cbic_india saying I would need to pay 7k INR for them to release the shipment. I explained how it's a 6 years old used jacket, already paid for, not a gift, it's a personal belonging. I even shared my receipts as proof. They said if I didn't pay, they would burn my jacket. And they did. (Or maybe some asshole from the customs dept gave it to his wife or kid and someone's walking around wearing it).
