나 초등학교 때 본드로 미술활동을 한 날이었음.
그날 양갈래 머리에 멜빵치마 입고 학교에 갔는데 평소에도 나를 따라다니면서 괴롭히던 남자애가 갑자기 내 옷이랑 머리에 본드를 뿌림.
정말 조금만 잘못했으면 눈에 들어갈 수도 있는 위험한 상황이었음.

너무 당황스럽고 화가 나서 선생님한테 말했는데 선생님은 나한테 “쟤가 너를 좋아하고 관심이 있어서 그러는 거야”라고 함.
그리고 그 남자애한테는 “관심을 표현하는 건 좋지만 이렇게 하면 여자애들이 싫어해. 예쁘게 하고 왔는데 옷이랑 머리에 본드가 묻었잖아”라고 말함.

나는 걔가 나를 좋아하는지 궁금하지도 않았고, 예쁘게 하고 온 게 망가져서만 화난 것도 아니었음.
평소에도 나를 괴롭히던 애가 이번에는 위험한 물질까지 내 몸에 뿌렸는데 선생님은 그 행동을 폭력이나 괴롭힘이 아니라 >서툰 호감 표현<으로 번역해줬음.

너무너무 짜증이 나서 그날 집에 가자마자 본드 묻은 옷을 버리고, 엄마랑 미용실에 가서 머리도 짧게 잘라버림.

그 애는 좋아하는 마음을 표현하는 법을 조금 잘못 배운 아이가 됐고, 나는 옷과 머리를 잃고도 그 호의를 이해해줘야 하는 여자애가 됐음.
