1/ Chief Minister Omar Abdullah yesterday chaired a comprehensive review meeting in Shopian to assess the progress of developmental works, implementation of government schemes and public service delivery. He reiterated his government's commitment to balanced and equitable development across the district.
2/ During the visit, the Chief Minister dedicated and laid the foundation of 13 development projects worth Rs 76.45 crore covering roads, bridges, drinking water supply, urban development, rural infrastructure and horticulture.
3/ The review meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Ministers Sakina Itoo and Javid Ahmad Dar, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, MLAs Shabir Ahmad Kullay and Showkat Hussain Ganai, senior officers and district officials.
4/ Deputy Commissioner Shopian presented a detailed review of the district profile, progress under centrally sponsored schemes, financial and physical achievements, and the status of major ongoing developmental projects.
5/ Omar Abdullah appreciated the district administration for implementing development programmes and described Shopian as a strategically important district known for its apple industry, scenic beauty and the historic Mughal Road, assuring focused investments to strengthen these sectors.
6/ Acknowledging financial constraints in Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister said these would not hinder the district's progress and assured that no Assembly constituency in Shopian would face discrimination. He directed officials to address shortcomings and expedite public development demands.
7/ He instructed the Deputy Commissioner to personally monitor projects sanctioned under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme to ensure timely completion within prescribed deadlines.
8/ Projects inaugurated included the upgradation of the Shirmal-Wathoo-Matipora Road, water supply schemes at Shadab Karewa, Domwani, Adijen Gadipora and Rebon Khojpora, residential accommodation for Panchayati Raj Institution members at Gagren, the Trenz-Sheikhpora Bridge and the Safanagri-Lamine Darbagh Wachi Road.
9/ The Chief Minister also laid the e-foundation for the Doompora multi-cell causeway, beautification works in Shopian town, a mechanical windrow composting unit at the Mega Fruit and Vegetable Mandi Aglar, and a pasteurised compost-making unit at Allowpora. He also laid the foundation stone for an auction platform at the Aglar Mandi.
10/ Interacting with fruit growers and representatives of the Fruit Mandi Association, Omar Abdullah assured priority action on issues related to controlled atmosphere storage, marketing infrastructure, availability of shops, weather-based crop insurance, hailstorm protection, and measures to curb the sale of spurious pesticides.
11/ The Chief Minister reaffirmed that agriculture and horticulture remain the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir's economy and said the government is committed to strengthening the sector through improved infrastructure, market access and farmer-centric initiatives.
12/ Omar Abdullah also met public delegations from different parts of Shopian, assured prompt redressal of genuine grievances, and visited exhibition stalls showcasing agricultural, horticultural and value-added local products, appreciating efforts to promote entrepreneurship and rural livelihoods.

SHOPIAN: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is set to visit Shopian today to review ongoing development works and assess the implementation of key welfare schemes at the grassroots. During the visit, he will inaugurate, dedicate to the public, and lay foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth over Rs 76 crore aimed at strengthening the district’s socio-economic development.
