Lead VFX Artist @EVEOnline - @FenrisCreations - 50% Real-Time FX, 50% EVE Online, 50% Random Stuff, 0% Math. Opinions are my own. He/Him. #realtimevfx#gamedev
I have to partake in #artvsartist at least once..., Real-Time VFX is the best, and getting to create it with our Audio & Graphics team for @eveonline is an honor and a privilege. #artvsartists2019#realtimevfx
The closing pictures from the EVE Fanfest art presentation by @razorieneve hit hard!
They are both an achievement in articistc virtual world news photography and an epic expression of amazing creativity and grit of EVE Players in orchestrating these reccord shattering moments!
Death is a serious matter was the first line in the EVE design script. It has echoed over the decades. We are now transcribing it into poetry inspired by the Eddas which were written in Iceland almost a millenia ago.

We have now captured this story in a logo animation we reveled at EVE Fanfest. Fenris eats the sun and a new star rises. The cycle of creation is kept honest by entropy.
20+ years powering @EveOnline now powering @EVE_Frontier. And after @HilmarVeigar's Fanfest keynote yesterday, opening to everyone.
Much of CARBON is on GitHub today. Full open source in June. Come build in the sandbox!

After days of rising tension, 7.62 and The Initiative squared off over The Continental in Urhinichi, one of the last remaining Fortizars in Pochven.
7.62 ultimately succeeded in destroying the Fortizar, but not without sacrifice, as hundreds of billions of ISK in battleships were lost in the effort.
I've always been passionate about games and they've played a big part in @GoogleDeepMind’s history, as the perfect proving ground for AI. Thrilled to announce this research partnership with @FenrisCreations - @EveOnline is one of the most extraordinary games ever built and has an amazing community. Very excited to work with @HilmarVeigar and the team!
Very excited to be working with @demishassabis and crew at @GoogleDeepMind as @FenrisCreations
In the progression of Atari DQN, AlphaGo, AlphaStar... then obviously @EveOnline is the final boss. It is multi-agent at scale, mixed-motive, persistent, imperfect information, real-time, and a metagame that bleeds.
But most importantly it has EVE Players, a hivemind of human cunning annealed by 23 years of drama into a collective intelligence. It does not lose 🧠
We’re partnering with the developers of @EveOnline to explore the next frontier of AI research in games.
EVE's complex, player-driven universe is the perfect safe sandbox to test agents on memory, continual learning, and long-term planning.

The next step on the path to EVE Forever begins today, on EVE’s 23rd anniversary.
Today, we announced that we are becoming Fenris Creations: an independent company built to support the long-term future of the EVE universe.
The name Fenris Creations is inspired by Norse myth, and from an idea that feels very close to EVE: worlds are not meant to remain frozen in place. They are tested by change, shaped by consequence, and renewed by the people who live inside them. That has always been true of New Eden.
But it’s also inspired by our own history. When we sought out to make games in 1997 we were grounded by a guiding principle; for a virtual world to have meaning, it must be shaped by risk, loss, renewal, and the people who inhabit it. In short: death is a serious matter.
Our very first published game carried the name Fenris on the box, a reminder of the kinds of worlds we wanted to build.
Nearly three decades later, Fenris Creations carries that first idea forward into a new era. Our name and structure are changing, but our roots and ideals remain the same: building living universes shaped by people, trust, consequence, and time.
We enter this new chapter with gratitude to Pearl Abyss for their partnership and support since 2018, and with respect for what this chapter helped make possible.
As part of this new journey we're also beginning an exciting research partnership with Google DeepMind, exploring intelligence in complex & dynamic systems.
And as always, New Eden continues because you continue to build it with us.

I’m not usually one to finish long form podcasts, let alone 5+ hour podcasts, but man did this one hit. What a great episode from a titan of the industry. The respect I had for Jeff just tripled after finishing this. A must listen for anyone who cares about making games.
Razorien is renowned for capturing the beauty of EVE in stunning screenshots shared on his popular Flickr page. He has recently added hundreds of new images from events over the past few months.
Ten Rorquals, a handful of carriers, a Hel, and an Avatar brought a lot of attention - and chaos, to Misaba last night!
Shoutout to all the fleets both big and small who showed up!
