FYI, Americans, you cannot imagine HOW racist your society is compared to the European one. Even though Europeans can be quite xenophobic, too,
we don’t go around with color palettes comparing snow white and tanned skin to determine whether a person was white enough to be killed by the police.
And, what is important, remember: even in early 20th century, only three races of humans were distinguished in the world. Caucasoid, Mongoloid and Negroid. (Not those weird categories you have in your questionnaires and statistics).
Nowadays, even these distinctions are challenged, and rightfully so.
If blood can be donated from a person of any race to a person of any race, this already means we’re not that different. Biochemistry doesn’t lie.
When you enter school or university in Europe, you are sometimes asked: what is your mother tongue, where you were born, and (rarely) where your parents were born. And they ask that not to separate you from others. They ask that to see whether additional support might be needed in terms of language of instruction.
You know, which statistical parameter of a person is found to be the best indicator of their social level and potential success at school? (It is used widely in Belgium to equalize school classes composition).
Not race, not immigration background, not language.
The level of education of their mother.
This is the only strong predictor.
So, your palettes, your “Latino/White/Black/Asian/whatever” categories are irrelevant.
