BAYC hate is having another moment on the timeline.
Good. Let’s put the five loudest claims next to the actual data, because criticism is fair. Fiction is not!
1. “BAYC crashed, so it is dead.”
The crash is real. BAYC remains roughly 95% below its 153.7 ETH peak. Anyone ignoring that drawdown is selling cope.
But dead?
When checked today, OpenSea showed:
• ~$18.9K floor
• ~$496K in 24-hour volume
• $3.8B in lifetime volume
• 5,594 unique owner wallets
• Only 2.9% of the collection listed
BAYC minted at 0.08 ETH. Its floor remains more than 80 times the mint price in ETH.
A collapsed speculative bubble is not the same as a dead collection.
2. “The community left.”
There are still more than 5,500 unique holder addresses. Yuga also organized over 30 physical meetups worldwide in a single month this year.
ApeFest continues, holder businesses keep shipping, and new people are still joining five years after the mint.
You cannot measure a community only by its floor. The real test is whether people continue showing up after the hype disappears.
Apes did.
3. “Yuga abandoned BAYC.”
Yuga restructured, changed leadership and spent years spreading itself too thin. Those are valid criticisms.
Abandonment, however, is not supported by what is shipping.
Recent activity includes the BAYC Clubhouse, an anime series, Otherside Nexus, Dookey Dash: Unclogged, official 3D Ape models, a peer-to-peer marketplace, Snoop Dogg Telegram avatars, ApeFest, BMW and ComplexCon activations.
Debate the execution all you want. Saying nothing is happening is simply false.
3. “Otherside and ApeChain are vaporware.”
Otherside took far too long. Its early experience was also criticized for feeling empty. Fair.
But Otherside Nexus officially launched in November 2025 with browser access, NFT avatars and community-created experiences.
ApeChain has been live since October 2024. L2Beat currently tracks approximately $18M in value secured, with APE used as gas.
Neither product is finished, mainstream, or free from technical risks. But unfinished is not imaginary.
5. “You only own a JPEG.”
The official BAYC license says ownership is mediated by the Ethereum smart contract and cannot be seized, frozen, or modified by Yuga.
It also grants holders an unlimited worldwide commercial license to create derivative works from their individual Ape.
That does not mean you own Yuga, its trademarks or guaranteed profits. It means you own a transferable onchain asset and receive commercial rights to the associated artwork.
That is why holder-built brands, clothing, games, content and other Made By Apes businesses exist.
Now for the truth both extremes dislike:
@BoredApeYC is not perfect!
The 2022 prices were irrational. Otherside was delayed. Yuga overexpanded. Leadership changed. The wider NFT market still has problems with shrinking participation and wash trading.
But “dead, abandoned and useless” does not match the evidence.
BAYC is a five-year-old digital-native brand with billions in lifetime market volume, thousands of holder addresses, global events, commercial IP rights, live products and a community that survived one of the most brutal NFT winters.
I did not buy my Ape expecting a straight line upward.
I bought into an identity, a network, and a culture that people are still trying to bury five years later, yet it keeps showing up.
You do not need to own an Ape.
You do not even need to like the art.
But if your entire argument is a screenshot from the 2022 top and “NFTs are dead,” that is not research.
It is another recycled meme.
What would BAYC need to deliver next to change your mind?
Winning ends when the timer stops. Recognition can last much longer.
Nitro’s social design turns private effort into visible status through three surfaces: Nitro Boost, Snapshot Cards, and Podium & Friends.
The goal is simple:
Make the next race worth being seen. 🧵
