That’s a wrap! Dr. Marker and the team from Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) have had a busy few days at the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (@UNCCD COP17) in Mongolia. Over the course of two weeks, Dr. Marker and the team joined delegates, scientists and representatives from other cheetah range countries to represent the #cheetah at the conference on land and drylands.
During the conference, CCF and The Living Desert hosted a side-event - Saving the Cheetah, Saving the Drylands – making the case that cheetah conservation is #dryland conservation – and a scientifically grounded route to Land Degradation Neutrality. Dr. Marker also joined a panel moderated by Ellen Otaru-Okoedion, from the Journalists’ Environmental Association of Tanzania (JET). During her time, Dr. Marker emphasized the importance of community-based #conservation and called for supporting ecosystem stewardship certifications that connect responsible land management to finance and public recognition.
