There are very few variables in how a city functions that have a bigger affect than how citizens travel to work or education each day. People in the business call it transportation “mode share.” When u have only 14% by car, you’re a fundamentally different city than if it’s 80%.
Starting on the 21st July and running till the end of August, Parliament Street will be traffic free every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. #Dublin#SummerinDublin#Trafficfree

Never forget that when Seoul, Korea removed the Cheonggyecheon expressway in 2003 & replaced it with a restored stream & 1000 acre park in the city’s centre, not only did it transform the city’s public life & economic success, but the traffic got better.
The traffic got BETTER.
In Ljubljana, there are over 100,000 sq. metres of pedestrianised streets.
Outdoor dining & pedestrianisation are complementary, with a fluidity between street & dining spaces, resulting in an attractive & animated public space.
Lessons for outdoor street dining in Ireland.
If anyone would like to see how a play street works in practice, come along to Chapel Green in Rush in @Fingalcoco tomorrow when the street will be closed to traffic from 12.30 to allow children to play freely.
Lots of other great activities taking place for #LetsPlayRush
