This is the third conviction under the data protection law, 2 in a space of 2 months. This seems like progress and perhaps it will help with awareness.
If you knew the back story(ies), you would cry too.
Raúl Jiménez has played at four World Cups. Across Brazil, Russia and Qatar, he never scored a single goal. Today, on home soil at the Estadio Azteca, that finally changed. And the moment broke him.
The tears obviously carried years. In March 2026, just three months ago, Jiménez lost his father Raúl Jiménez Vega to pancreatic cancer at the age of 62. He was a pivotal figure in his son's career. That goal was for him.
And there was more beneath it. In 2020, playing for Wolves against Arsenal, Jiménez fractured his skull in a collision with David Luiz. He lay unconscious on the pitch while teammates and family feared the worst.
It took emergency surgery and eight months to return. He still wears the protective headband today. Many of us thought it was over back then. 6 years later, at 35, Jimenez’s story is still being written.
Just think about it. A near-fatal injury, a grieving son and a 12-year wait for one World Cup goal, finally answered in front of his own people.
This is why we watch football. Not for the trophies. For the human underneath. Don’t you just love it.

UPDATE: The Justice for Sydney Gongodyo petition is BACK! 💪🏾
https://t.co/T7PLKmlYtH has removed the petition promotion/payment feature. There are no donation prompts. No confusion. Just signatures to help us ensure that every person involved in the murder of our brother is tried in a PUBLIC mobile court for all of Uganda to witness.
We temporarily closed it to protect the integrity of the campaign, so thank you for your patience and understanding. 🙏🏾
We would also like to inform the general public that the official and verified contribution channels for those who still wish to support Sydney's family directly will be shared in due course on the official @piratesrugbyUG handle.
Now let us get back to work. Sign the petition. Share it everywhere. Tag everyone. 🖤

FIFA's president can invent a farcical peace prize to flatter the ego of the president of the United States and spend months pandering to his political project, but Haiti's national team can't acknowledge their national struggle for independence because it's too "political"
The World Cup begins tomorrow, and many will watch the matches. Soccer reminds us of something we must not forget: life is not a race to show off on our own, but a path we learn to walk together. Anyone who does not know how to pass the ball, even if they have talent, has not yet understood the game. Anyone who does not know how to live with and for others has not yet understood life. #ApostolicJourney

and until we unlearn this hunger for quick judgment,
we will keep burying truth beside the innocent." ~ Seguya Enoch
May his soul rest in peace. No one should lose their life the way Sydney did. May his young family never lack, and may those responsible be brought to justice.
