It’s amazing how she so eloquently put her point and even got Apple to agree to her terms and yet received an unnecessary amount of backlash, even from her peers who stood to benefit from this fight. Proves that nothing you say or do matters when people have decided to hate you.
Taylor Swift might be an actual witch. The Patient Zero bridge that I once loathed is now my favorite part of the song
I was drunk on the weekend and it just clicked. I thought it was likely the booze but I listened again last night clear eyed and it still hits like crack😭
I think I just no longer have the energy for stantwt…I love taylor’s music and that’s all I care about right now. it sucks that there is so much hate and misinformation online but I know she’s living her best life and that’s all that matters in the end. this is all just noise…
And then twitter activist, livies, billie and charli xcx's fans (dont know what they're called lol) dare to disrespect this woman?? For what??? Looool.
In an open letter on June 21, 2015, Taylor Swift said Apple Music would not get her album 1989 because of its three-month free trial policy. A few hours later, Apple agreed to pay all artists during the trial.
In the clip below, she explains why she wrote it. "For anyone who wants to create music, for any little kid who's taking piano lessons right now, I want them to have an industry to go into."
She had done this before. In November 2014, she pulled her catalog from Spotify, which refused to keep her music behind its paid tier.
Apple Music was set to launch on June 30, 2015, with three free months. For that time, artists, songwriters and producers would be paid nothing.
Apple's answer was a bigger cut after the trial, about 72% of revenue against roughly 70% elsewhere in the industry.
Her letter ended: "We don't ask you for free iPhones. Please don't ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation."
After posting it, she later recalled, she was struck by an overwhelming fear: "Am I gonna wake up tomorrow and all my music is off of iTunes?"
That Sunday evening, Apple's Eddy Cue posted that Apple would pay artists during the trial, at a lower rate per stream, and called her. "Fast forward a couple hours and everything was different," she said.
On June 25, she announced 1989 would be on Apple Music. At launch, it was the only streaming service with the album.
Later she joked: "I didn't have a personal relationship with Apple until that point. I'm sure there are better ways to introduce yourself." The introduction turned into a partnership. In December 2015, her 1989 tour film came out exclusively on Apple Music, and in 2016 she starred in its ads.
So did Swift win this fight for every artist, or did Apple just not want to lose her?
I love olivia. Pero as if naman di naglabas si ate mo ng ibat ibang variant ng YSPSFASI. Masyadong bobo sa music industry standard. Lol. Pero tahimik sya dun sa issue ng album pricing ni Olivia.
Yess!!! Go Olivia!!!
Haha, watch Taylor release another “Super Special Edition” of The Life of a Showgirl just to make sure nobody else gets a moment. Sis cannot stand not being the center of attention. Like girl, give it a rest. It’s getting exhausting!!!
#taylorswift 💀
Taylor got her first Hot 100 No.1 six years into her career, and you never heard her complain about Rihanna collecting #1s left and right. The charts are a competition, not charity. You work for that spot. Nobody owes anyone a #1.
one day we're gonna find out who's behind the smear campaigns against taylor and it'll be one of the best days of my life like i won't even be surprised but watching their fans try to defend them is gonna be BEAUTIFUL
In 10 years, people will remember Taylor Swift for the records she broke, the music she released and the way she carried the music industry for years not for hit tweets, viral tiktoks, or made-up lies on the internet so keep barking 🤍
call me sensitive, but imo this is kinda shitty for reasons unrelated to taylor swift. swap in any other name - publicly telling an enthusiastic, seemingly polite audience member that they aren’t welcome is just mean-spirited & counter to the ethos of drag culture at its best :/
also after taylor announced the date for RED TV, adele went and announced her long awaited comeback album on that same date. because that’s business, and adele didn’t owe her anything. taylor doesn’t owe anything to anyone either.
