列治文及华人的发展史：

1、1879年11月10日正式成为自治市，比温哥华建市还早7年

2、1883年，列治文市政府第一次正式雇佣华工修筑道路和沟渠，档案明确指出：列治文早期许多道路和堤坝都是华工修建的，同时是Steveston罐头工业的重要劳动力

3、1895年，华人Ling Chung Lam（林仲林）在Steveston开设了著名的 Hong Wo Store（同和商店），它不仅卖日用品，还服务附近渔民、工人和居民，被列治文档案称为类似当地早期的“supermarket”。他本人还拥有约100英亩农地，同时经营华工住宿。到1920年代，列治文已经出现相当规模的华人菜农。

4、华人在建设列治文的同时，长期没有完整政治权利，这也是列治文历史中不能忽略的一面:
1872年：BC剥夺华人的投票权；
1885年：实施华人人头税；
1903年人头税提高到$500；
1923年：《华人移民法》，即通常所说的“排华法”；
直到1949年，BC华人才第一次真正参加省级和列治文市政选举。也就是说出现过一个很鲜明的历史反差：
华人参与修建列治文的堤坝和道路、在农场和罐头厂工作并纳税，但几十年里却没有市政投票权。

5、1967年加拿大废除带有种族限制色彩的移民制度、改为积分制以后，华人移民重新大量增加。尤其从1980年代后期到1990年代，大量来自：香港 → 台湾 → 中国大陆
这一波人与19世纪华工的经济背景也明显不同，其中相当部分带来了：资本，企业，专业技能，国际商业网络，房地产投资，零售和餐饮产业。

6、2021年人口普查中，按Statistics Canada的“Chinese visible minority”口径，列治文约113,060人属于Chinese群体，占人口约54.3%。
