Added context to this situation via @NadineBabu's sources at St. Thomas ->
- The Gophers offered to play St. Thomas at the new Lee and Penny Anderson Arena in an exhibition game, prior to the regular season.
- St. Thomas already had a Nov 3 game planned as the grand opening of Anderson Arena with Army that had been in the works for 18 months. Army is Lee Anderson’s Alma mater, where he played basketball and football.
- The Andersons gifted $75 million for the new Arena and were elated when this Army/UST match-up was set.
- UST has stated for the past 4 years they want to play the Gophers, any other game, any other date, in either a regular season non-conference buy game, or in a home and home series.
- Ironically, St. Thomas is actively looking to schedule a high major regular season buy game for this season (they have been unable to schedule one) and would love the #Gophers to be one of them.
