Just to put this in perspective (and I'm not defending Pickering's remarks) Pickering came out the front of the ABC offices to interview a crowd that were there protesting. Yemini the human headline, approached and stuck a microphone in Pickering's face and asked him about Grace Tame's latest gig

The media is making it sound as if Pickering appeared on Yemini's show or something similar

The concern should be why Pickering felt he should insert himself into the situation to begin with and why he felt it was appropriate to engage on camera with a known extremist
