WHAT IS FULL TIME MINISTRY?
Colossians 3:23-24 (KJV): And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
I have heard, over and over again, some ministers claim that the Lord has called them into full time ministry.
But a close examination of what some mean is contrary to the scriptures. As such, we have a generation of young ministers who have decided never to get any meaningful work but spend all their time at church in the name of serving the Lord.
This has become a breeding ground for struggling lifestyles because they cannot support themselves and have to consistently depend on or manipulate fellow believers for sustenance.
Getting a job or starting a business does not make you any less of a minister. It can even make you a more effective one. You are a minister while sitting at an office desk or handling customers of your business.
The Apostle Paul was involved in the tent making trade even as a preacher and teacher of the gospel (Acts 18:3). This did not diminish his apostleship.
Full time ministry should not be translated to mean full time and total dependence on church resources for livelihood. Full time ministry means that wherever you are, you are ready to be used by God as and when the occasion demands.
Hallelujah!
FURTHER STUDY: Ephesians 6:7-8; Ephesians 4:11-12
PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this word. Thank You for the opportunity to serve You in whatever capacity You have trusted me. As a minister, I exercise myself in the wisdom You have given me today. Many, like the apostle Paul have set an example which I choose to diligently follow, to the glory of Your name, Amen.
