@Bianca64466558 Hey Bianca! I think this is a great example which shows different examples of why they think their generation was better than others and also gives a nostalgic factor to the examples they are sharing which others can relate to! #DCIM352
@sydnieedelman Hey Sydnie! I also used TikTok as an example for my tweet and it just means that the TikTok generation would consider themselves better than other generations as they are made more aware through the diverse interactions made online #DCIM352
concept in the readings by Hampton & Wellman where new technology and networks have affordances that allow individuals to interact with others with different beliefs and backgrounds, or a diverse network. #DCIM352
A tweet that demonstrates the idea that that generations believe their sense of community is stronger are the challenge tweets (# ___ challenge) where many challenges are made online media such as Twitter and TikTok and (cont.) #DCIM352

@k_fausttt Hey Katie! I to have times where I felt lost without my phone and it made me realize how much I have relied on my phone and social media. I feel like people do not realize how much bad it has done to us and that being educated about the use of social media should be a thing.
@KenyiVRU Hey Kenyi! I liked how you compared social media to drug addiction and I agree that it's similar. I would also like to point out that although drugs can be avoided, social media is difficult to avoid because of how integrated it has become in our daily lives. #DCIM352
Watching #TheSocialDilemma made me realize how social media platforms themselves curate to the user's needs and somehow are able to manipulate their users to get addicted, which they then can monetize from. However, as I was watching the film, it also made me (cont.) #DCIM352
think how much we have relied on social media and how it can also do some good, such as being the best way for social interactions during times like the pandemic. Although getting addicted is inevitable, (cont.) #DCIM352
@landon_wan Hey Landon! I definitely agree with you about being mindful. Although I know that being on social media can be harmful, I think if it is done in moderation and just being mindful of what you do and being aware of consequences, then we would be fine. #DCIM352
@mtinana_ru Hi Michaela! Club Penguin is definitely considered a "playbor" game because in the game itself, other than modding and socializing, there are activities such as working in a pizza parlor where you work to earn money, which itself is immaterial labor. Great example! #DCIM352
@KenyiVRU Valorant is definitely a great example of immaterial labor and gaming! The strategy and communication you and your team have is vital in winning the game, which in turn generate for more profit which can help win more rounds, which itself is immaterial labor. #DCIM352
and self-organization" (Dyer-Witheford and de Peuter, 2009, p. 27). In FFXIV, There is an in-game currency and market system where players can gather, craft, and build items they could sell for profit which in and of itself how the game succeeds. #DCIM352
An example of "immaterial labor" & gaming in terms of "playbor" would be Final Fantasy XIV. FFXIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) where you could create your own character, known as the Warrior of Light, and save the world you are (cont.) #DCIM352
in against Primals and the Empire. As mentioned in the reading, "playbor" is where "games sprang, transforming it from esoteric art into a more general capacity for autoproduction, networked collaboration, (cont.) #DCIM352
@hck23_ Hey Hannah! Climate change is a very sensitive topic for some people but it needs to be shared and being aware of it is very important especially since our lives and future rely on it. Counterpublics sometimes receive hate and climate change groups are definitely some that do.
@JanMichaelSeva1 Hey Jan! This is definitely a great example of a counterpublic. I imagine counterpublics as organizations or groups that were found to be made fun of or have received some kind of hate, and witchcraft is definitely a unique example that isn't usually talked about in a good light.
A great counterpublic example I am a member of is the Queer Asian Intersection group or (QuAInt) on Facebook. It is an inclusive but also exclusive community for Asians who are members of the lgbtq+ community to socialize, fool around, and also educate (cont.) #DCIM352
In the reading, the author mentions that counterpublic communication is often "tenuous, at risk of being disrupted, ridiculed, dismissed, or ignored," (Renninger, 2014, p. 2). That is one of the main reasons why the group was made, to make sure that our community (cont) #DCIM352
