@hailhailhistory 3 sibling births ...
Agnes, 1875, registered by the father still using "his mark".
David, 1877, by a cousin.
Mary, 1879, by James a brother.
Registrar appears to be Robert Buchanan on all including James in 1865.
@hailhailhistory A possible explanation...
6/04/1879 Mary Kelly born to David & Agnes Kelly.
The birth was registered by James Kelly - brother! A 14 year old registering the birth would surely be unusual?
I think the registrar is the same for both births... Did he offer to sort the error?
@hailhailhistory The fact that the father makes his "mark" on the entry kind of hints that he couldn't read or write & has agreed to what is transcribed.
This error would only really have come to light when one of the family was able to read the document.
To insult two highly respected and free thinking politicians like this is disgraceful.
It just shows how far standards in society have fallen.
Anyone reposting this insulting photograph should feel utterly ashamed.
😡
@bostonwayne@InFromtheCold1 I don't know if this will help...
His brother William (died October 1926) has an entry on the Find A Grave website for Bishopwearmouth Cemetery.
Plot : Ward 43, section A, plot 25.
Looking at the plan this is off the Chester Road (A183), beside the crematorium grounds.
