⚠️ #StormÉowyn has left 93,000 homes in NI without power. If you or somebody you know is affected by power cuts, it's important to ensure that your food remains safe to eat.
If the power cut lasts longer than 4 hours, here are some steps you can take to keep your food safe(1/3)
Keep fridge and freezer doors closed: Your fridge will stay cold for up to 4 hours and a full freezer will stay frozen for up to 48 hours.
Store food outside (if it’s cold): If the temperature outside is below 8°C, you can store food safely outdoors in a sealed container. (2/3)
Use food that needs refrigeration first: Save tinned and ambient foods for later.
If you're using a gas cooker or camping stove, ensure food is cooked thoroughly and follow safety guidelines.

Legislation has been introduced that will see folic acid added to non-wholemeal flour in Northern Ireland.
The move will aim to protect newborn babies from serious brain and spine problems.
Women who could become pregnant, before conception and up until the 12th week of pregnancy should still take a folic acid supplement.
The new measures will come into effect from 2026.
