Differences in how elite & amateur athletes use wearable devices 👇
🔹 Amateurs can be motivated & stressed by them
🔹 Elites view them as a companion that can entertain or distract them through times of fatigue
🔹 Amateurs want novel features, elites want simplicity & comfort
Nutritional info per 100g - protein, calories and fibre
Hoping this is a useful resource to have for people to consider a wide variety of protein sources, and also their fibre content.
Amazing day teaching students at @RGUASES_Coach yesterday. The group really engaged with our live tracking workflows, monitoring data via laptop + 2 iPads in real-time.
No hiding there!
Big thanks to @Paddy_Maughan / Sam Boyes / Nichol Forbes.
@catapultsports#unleashpotential
A great day for our 4th year @RGUASES_Coach students yesterday completing a seminar with @catapultsports on athlete tracking. Many thanks to @AndyeXr and Nichol Forbes for delivering the session! 👏⭐️
Rangers know they cannot afford to drop points against Celtic's dominance, making it near-impossible for teams in lower positions to steal points from either of them.
Across the rest of the table, points tallies are much lower and trending down.
Is the SPFL becoming more or less competitive?
In short, the Old Firm is making it much less competitive.
Inspired by @Gwilym on his work on premier league data. His work is a must-see: https://t.co/0x3DrZfm1e

🧵
This is likely due to Celtic & Rangers consistently competing for 1st and 2nd place. Rangers have significantly improved their efforts in points collection as of last year, which is leading to the Old Firm becoming highly competitive even outside of the derby fixtures themselves.
@davecarolan Alt view: He sounded slightly confused, as if he was told some nutrition information for his own kid but failed to grasp the concepts - there’s so much information/noise these days, its easy for parents to get exposed to elite ideas without any clear message! Interesting clip..
For optimal athlete development, play the long game.
Involving kids in talent promotion programmes early leads to short-term performance success.
But success at senior level was associated with LATER entry into talent promotion programmes.
Data from ~6000 athletes 👇
Amazing piece of research, and @DrSianAllen is asking the right question!
It is easy to get bogged down in the numbers, especially as a budding practitioner. But at the end of the day, athletes are humans too.
Don’t make them second guess themselves when trying to help them!
If your job is to monitor athlete training, do you want to reduce the burden on your athletes as much as possible?
e.g.,
- Collecting data in the background
- Running 'invisible monitoring'
It seems like an obvious YES!
But this study suggests otherwise...🧵
@Coach_BrettB Why? Can you correctly tell the discreet differences in bar speeds or force output between reps or sets by just using the coaches eye?….probably not - tech is necessary for some popular modes of modern training. They cannot be effective without that objective data
Technology is changing the roles & job descriptions of Sports Scientists.
Here's 5 new roles that I think we might see within Sports Science teams in the next 5-10 years... 🧵
