Senior Occupational Therapist based at Paulton Memorial Hospital, focusing on older adult inpatient rehabilitation. 1/2 of the @PaultonTherapy account.
Happy International Volunteer Day! We always appreciate all of our volunteers time and the value they add to the patients journey.
We even have 4 generations of volunteers/staff from one family working on the ward!🌟
Our Christmas Advent Calendar is live!
Throughout December we have activities planned to help prevent hospital acquired deconditioning.
By rehabilitating in ways outside the box, we’re able to improve physical, mental & social outcomes.
@ReconGamesUK#ReconditionTheNation
Our Christmas Tree decorations are now on sale at the main reception
£2 and £1 boxes available.
Many thanks again to GJ Knits and Janice for their kind knitted contributions, with all proceeds going towards patient comfort & amenities.
Get them before they’re gone!
(A very belated) Day 5-
Adaptions.
After completing initial assessments, we aim to make care as client centred as possible. We are able to further support this by making minor adaptions where needed, like the hearing loop seen here in action.
@theRCOT#OTWeek24
We will remember them.
Patients and staff at Paulton Hospital joined together in silence to remember those who gave their today for our tomorrow.
Many thanks to GJ Knits for her hand made poppies that have been used to decorate the dayroom.

Day 4-
Wash and dress🧼
For many this is the days first ‘occupation’.
Here, patients abilities are assessed & goals are collaboratively set to support regaining independence.
As well as practice, aids can also be used to enhance functional performance.
@theRCOT#OTWeek24
Day 3-
Animal assisted interventions🐶
Meet Sarah & Mable from @TherapyDogsUK who visit us monthly.
AAIs are known to improve self-esteem & confidence, whilst promoting quality of life & independence, which positively impacts occupational performance 😊
@theRCOT#OTWeek24
Day 2-
Breakfast club!
Ran every Tuesday (at least), it gives patients a chance to rehabilitate in a social setting, which benefits physical, mental & social wellbeing.
A great opportunity to assess meal & drink preparations whilst removing 1:1 pressures.

The Health Minister has praised the work of OTs on #OccupationalTherapyWeek
Minister Nesbitt highlighted the "vital and integral" role OTs play in the health and social care system in Northern Ireland. #OTWeek24@theRCOT
Day 1-
Today’s focus is Access Visits.
Widely regarded as an integral role of an Occupational Therapist, we complete these to gather information that allows us to deliver personalised care, rehabilitation and discharge planning (amongst other benefits).

Happy #OTWeek
To help celebrate this week, we will be giving a daily insight in to some of the fantastic things our Occupational Therapy team at Paulton do.
Stay tuned for all things green!
A Halloween fun day that has consisted of lots of themed activities.
Pumpkin soup, orange drawing & a Halloween quiz this morning.
A big thank you to Timsbury @coopuk , who kindly donated some prizes & to our latest volunteer Nancy, who helped run proceedings.
@ReconGamesUK
Our seated exercise classes are a fantastic way for patients to improve strength, agility, circulation and function.
We are able to use these stickers to objectively grade participation. This allows us to track improvements and measure outcomes 💪🏼
Chris has kindly taken on the role of our first ‘Exercise Volunteer’.
During her afternoon on the ward Chris assisted 6 patients through a prescribed exercise programme & increased daily therapy by 120 minutes!
This is an initiative we hope to keep growing.
@ReconGamesUK
World Singing Day is next week & we’ve celebrated with a visit from local duo, The Elderly Brothers.
17 patients were able to enjoy some non-alcoholic beverages & classic pub snacks, whilst Reconditioning outside the box.
Physical, social and mental wellbeing ✅

11 patients participated in a drama group that was very kindly ran by Paulton Baptist Church this afternoon.
Singing, clapping, moving and social interaction were all part of the agenda to encourage reconditioning.

🍦Who said you can’t have fun whilst reconditioning in hospital?
This afternoon patients were treated to an ice cream courtesy of The League of Friends, with physical, social & mental wellbeing all exercised with this rehabilitation activity 🍦
@ReconGamesUK
We had 3 patients in the dayroom and exercising on the pedal machines before 9am this morning!🌅
We aim to get patients up, moving and exercising daily throughout their admission, as this is all part of their rehabilitation journey💪🏼
