People are willing to erase 80yrs of basketball culture for one moment if it gives them another reason to attack Angel Reese.
For as long as basketball has existed, players have waited until after the game to shake hands and have conversations. And when players have done it during the game—like Anthony Edwards—they’ve been criticized for poor sportsmanship because of the timing.
But when Angel Reese tells Flau’jae, “Wait,” suddenly she’s the one in the wrong?
Last night exposed just how disingenuous so many of the Angel Reese conversations online really are.
Angel Reese wrapped up June with another productive month, averaging (15.8) points, (12.0) rebounds, (2.0) assists, and (1.8) steals per game. Not bad for a third-year player who entered the league as the No. 7 overall pick.
She earned a spot on our Starting 5 of the Week twice this month, highlighted by her stretch from June 9-20, when she averaged (19.2) points and (12.4) rebounds. She closed out the month with back-to-back performances of 15 points and 12 rebounds, followed by 17 points and nine rebounds.
While Atlanta dropped its final three games of June after opening the month with a (7-2) record, Reese continued to produce. She has now scored 15 or more points in eight of her last 10 games.
July presents a favorable opportunity for both Reese and the Dream. Atlanta will play six of its nine games at home, with home matchups against Golden State, Seattle (twice), Portland, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The team's three road games will come against Washington, Toronto, and Dallas. If Atlanta plays to its potential, there's a realistic path to an undefeated month.
The biggest area that needs to improve is Atlanta's perimeter defense, which has been costly during this recent skid. In the loss to Seattle, the Dream attempted six more three-pointers than the Storm, yet Seattle made 14 threes compared to Atlanta's seven. That alone created a 21-point advantage from beyond the arc, ultimately proving to be the difference in the game.
And hasn't been player of the Week one time this season. And yall still can't see who's behind the refs targeting, chicago sky's failing and now Karl failing the team.
Angel Reese is triple threat! #angelreese
This is why Karl won't play two bigs, this is why Karl refuses to implement a mid range game, this is why the guards won't pass #angelreese the ball bc she WILL pick up the SLACK, put the #atlantadream on her back and win! Fire Karl, Trade the stooges and build around Angel Reese! #doitforthedream
Why they just said an undersized Naz would have been more valuable than Okot. Told Yall. Karl refuses to play Madina and Angel together bc of Naz. smh.
That's not loyalty that's sabotage.
#atlantadream
Wait sportsmanship tells you to wait until after the game to shake hands like … EVERY OTHER GAME …. U ever see a jerseys swap with time left in the clock ? No . Be a professional and wait until the game is done
Flau’Jae knew better. You an Angel aint been friends in a long time. You being in the league didnt change that shit. No beef, she just dont fuck with you and your funky ass maw.
What’s y’all excuse for the dream today? 😭 the refs weren’t even bad, they weren’t triple teaming the bigs, however there’s two guards being inconsistent as per usual…
This break is much needed for the Dream. Terrible road trip but all you can do is rest, grow and be ready Thursday. Thank goodness most of our games r at home in July
Flau'jae mad as shit Angel ain't wanna talk. Lmaoooo now she wanna hype up the crowd. Girl, I'm losing, eff wutever type of time u on if we not friends. 😭
