Overnight on 9 October (from 18:00 on 8 October), Russia attacked with 136 Shahed-type strike drones (93 of them jet-powered), Gerbera drones and Parodiya-type decoy drones, launched from Orel and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, occupied Donetsk and Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea. The attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups. According to preliminary data as of 08:00, air defence shot down or suppressed 114 Shahed (77 of them jet-powered), Gerbera and other drones. Hits were recorded at 8 locations, and debris from downed drones fell at 7 locations. The Air Force said the attack was still ongoing, with several hostile drones still in the air.
Ukraine hit a cruise-missile fuel plant in Tver Oblast overnight, the same facility that makes Decilin-M fuel for the Kh-101 missiles Russia fired at Pryluky two days ago.
The Redkino Experimental Plant, which produces specialized fuel for Kh-55/Kh-101 cruise missiles plus ferrocene-based rocket propellant additives, caught fire.
It’s the plant’s second strike in 2026 (first was in February) and it’s been under UK sanctions since September 2025.
The same night, Russia said it downed 505 Ukrainian drones across 19 regions.
A Yandex data center in Kaluga was also damaged (second consecutive night hitting Russian tech infrastructure), and an oil depot near Belgorod was set ablaze.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a Russian Pantsir-S1 air defense system near Kudepsta, a strike-drone launch site near Donetsk, ammunition depots, logistics facilities, and a fuel storage site, the General Staff said. https://t.co/BgJFDA6rlX
🔴 Ukraine targeted the Redkino Experimental Plant in Tver Oblast, which produces fuel for Kh-101 missiles. This comes as Russia's Yandex reports a drone attack on a second data center.
• The Redkino Experimental Plant produces fuel for Kh-55/Kh-101 cruise missiles.
• The facility was previously used to supply missiles fired at Pryluky two days ago.
• Yandex confirmed a second data center was hit by a drone attack.

🇺🇦 UKRAINE FRONTLINE UPDATE — OCTOBER 9, 2026
Morning briefing | 8:00 AM Kyiv time | October 8 battlefield report
Ukraine’s General Staff reported 211 combat engagements over the past 24 hours. The hottest sectors were Pokrovsk and Huliaipole, with 16 Russian attacks each, followed by Kostiantynivka with 12. Russia also launched 83 airstrikes, dropped 243 guided aerial bombs and deployed 9,987 attack drones. Fighting continues across the front, but no major operational breakthrough has been confirmed.
DOBROPILLIA. Russian forces launched 16 attacks. Ukrainian troops continue counterattacks and operations to eliminate Russian infiltration groups. Ukrainian military analyst Kostiantyn Mashovets reports that Ukrainian forces have regained control of Krasnyi Kut, Torske and Prytulok. ISW confirms Ukrainian counterattacks, but the precise boundaries of recaptured territory still require independent verification. Russian infiltration groups have been detected near the southwestern outskirts of Dobropillia and around Bilytske. Infiltration is not control of a city.
🔥 KOSTIANTYNIVKA — DRUZHKIVKA. Twelve Russian attacks. Russian troops continue offensive operations inside and around Kostiantynivka. Geolocated footage from October 4 confirms a recent Russian advance in the northwestern part of the city. This is a verified territorial change, but not necessarily one that occurred within the past 24 hours. No new major breakthrough has been confirmed.
⚔️ LYMAN — BOROVA — ZHEREBETS. Eight Russian assaults toward Novoserhiivka, Novoselivka, Stavky and Lyman. Ukraine’s General Staff reports that the attacks were repelled. Ukrainian counterattacks continue northeast of Lyman, particularly near Kolodiazi. No new independently confirmed territorial gains have been established over the reporting period.
🔥 SLOVIANSK — KRAMATORSK. Ukrainian forces continue counterattacking east of the fortified Sloviansk–Kramatorsk defensive belt. Geolocated evidence indicates Russian infiltration into central Tykhonivka. Reports of Ukrainian forces retaking several settlements remain insufficiently verified. The precise frontline remains contested.
⚔️ KUPIANSK — OSKIL. Eight Russian attacks toward Radkivka, Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi and Myrove. Geolocated footage from October 7 shows Ukrainian strikes against a Russian position in central Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. ISW assesses this as an infiltration episode, not evidence of established Russian territorial control. No confirmed territorial advance over the past 24 hours.
🇺🇦 OLEKSANDRIVKA — KOMAR. Ukrainian counterattacks continue. Reports suggest Ukrainian advances south of Komar and east of Oleksandrivka, but new territorial gains specifically on October 8 remain unconfirmed.
🔥 HULIAIPOLE — STAROUKRAINKA. Sixteen Russian attacks. DeepState recorded a Russian advance near Horke, while geolocated evidence assessed by ISW indicates a small Russian advance southwest of Staroukrainka during a mechanized assault. Ukrainian troops reported repelling the attack. Both can be true: defeating an assault does not automatically mean every position was retained.
🔥 ORIKHIV — ZAPORIZHZHIA. Two Russian attacks. ISW also identified a recent Russian advance on the southwestern outskirts of Andriivka, west of Orikhiv. The territorial change is localized. No major breakthrough has been established.
⚔️ SUMY — KHARKIV BORDER. One Russian attack on the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk axes, and five on the Southern Slobozhanshchyna axis. Ukrainian forces continue limited counterattacks in Sumy Oblast. No new territorial changes have been independently confirmed.
⚔️ KHERSON — DNIPRO. No Russian ground assaults recorded during the reporting period. No confirmed changes to territorial control.
BOTTOM LINE: Russia continues pressing toward Dobropillia, Kostiantynivka and Huliaipole. Local Russian territorial gains have been documented near Horke, Staroukrainka and Andriivka, while an earlier advance inside Kostiantynivka has also been confirmed.
Ukhta sits in the Komi taiga, 1,900 km from Ukraine's border. The drones found it anyway.
Footage checked by ASTRA shows smoke over the Lukoil refinery there this morning. Zelensky says new An-196 RS drones hit it. The plant refines 4 to 5 million tonnes of oil a year.

🇷🇺🇺🇦Another Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber took off from Olenya Airbase towards Ukrainka Airbase in the Far East to be armed with Kh-101 cruise missiles.
Ukrainka is commonly used to equip these strategic bombers(Tu-95 and Tu-160) as Olenya Airbase is used for take off of Tu-95s incase bombers are needed for mission against Ukraine.
This also signals Russian preparation for next large combined attack!!
Ukraine’s FP-1 Drones Reach Russia’s Largest Refinery Again—
Ukraine has struck Russia’s largest oil refinery in Omsk, returning to a major Siberian fuel producer more than 2,500 kilometers from its border. Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed the October 8 attack, while manufacturer Fire Point said upgraded FP-1 drones reached the facility and caused a fire. The Gazprom Neft refinery has an annual processing capacity of roughly 22 million metric tons and supplies fuel to Russia’s armed forces, according to Ukrainian military officials. This was the second Ukrainian attack on the complex since the full-scale invasion.
The first, on July 6, hit its AVT-11 primary distillation unit, which alone can process 8.4 million tons annually. Omsk is also one of six refineries that together account for around half of Russian diesel production. Repeated Ukrainian strikes have already reduced Russian fuel output and contributed to Moscow’s restrictions on gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel exports.
Since Mykhailo Drapatyi took up the post of Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian 🇺🇦 Army, a series of new reforms happened :
Here are 5 points interesting to debate :
1. Command style
2. Command structure
3. Purge and renewal of the officer corps
4. Systemic reforms
5. Tactical doctrine

Many American and European drones provided to Ukrainian units continue to fail or perform poorly. The same drones are being procured by NATO militaries. The companies that are succeeding have developed strong relationships with elite Ukrainian units and respond quickly to the feedback from Ukrainian operators. They benefit from Ukrainian expertise and the rapid innovation cycle in Ukraine. Battlefield performance in Ukraine should be one of the primary factors for future procurement choices by NATO militaries.
@Globalsurv Earlier this week four Tu-95MS left Olenya for Ukrainka, and Tu-160s also returned there. These are the aircraft that flew the recent combat sortie.
@wartranslated Schemes (RFE) cites an intercepted Russian energy analysis naming Odesa, Kyiv and Kharkiv among the main winter targets, and says disabling 12 key substations could cut up to 90% of power in those cities.
